Question About to order new 2007 FX4 - Question about Factory HU/Navigation

Hello,
I am about to order a fully loaded 2007 FX4, with Luxury package. My question is this: Is it true that if I decide to not order the factory navigation so that I can purchase aftermarket DVD/Navigation/Dual Zone HU, I will lose my steering wheel audio controls? I am interested in the aftermarket because my understanding is that the 2007 factory Navigation/DVD-ROM will not play DVD movies, correct?

Thanks,
JSB

Really?

Can you tell me what I have to look for in an aftermarket unit, like Alpine, Eclipse, or Pioneer, in order to use the factory steering wheel audio controls?

Also, any word if Sony will create a DVD/Navigation system?

Thanks,
JSB

PAC the way to go?

So I understand now that PAC has the product to control after-market HU/Navigation units from the factory steering wheel controls. For anyone who is using PAC, can you tell me if your Climate Controls - EATC are affected by a PAC installation?

Thanks,
JSB

PAC is the way to go, and the climate controls should not be affected.. What is your budget for the nav headunit??

Nope only the radio will be affected. Right now they're are two models of the PAC for our trucks. The 'remote' version which is wireless or the hardwired version. Spend the extra cash and get the hardwired version. . trust me.

Thanks

Yeah, I think you're right. The PAC hard-wired version is the way to go just for control responsiveness, vs. infrared, I understand.

My budget for the NAV unit is between $2K and $3K. I want something with dual CD/DVD slots, all possible add-on options, (sirius, etc), and dual zone capability and 6.5" to 7" display. I plan to put TFT displays in the headrests for the back seats. I think I will order my truck with Sirius and single CD just so that the Sirius antenna is already installed on the truck. I have read that I should be able to use the stock Sirius antenna with an aftermarket Sirius receiver.

Question

Why do you think it is that the Ford OEM version won't play DVD's? Seems odd to me. Obviously they'd have it so you couldn't play while driving, but it seems odd that ANY DVD-based NAV system would NOT have this option...?

Do other auto makers have this option on their NAV units?

It may be odd, but it's true. The 2007 comes with DVD based Navigation, but not DVD based Video.

I would reccomend the pioneer AVIC-Z1.. It is one of the best units out there, and the only one with 3D navigation..

Yeah, that Z1 looks incredible. What exactly is 3D Navigation anyway? Is there actually some 3rd Dimension to what it can display? Can someone explain to me how that looks or works?
