Little rear end help
Little rear end help
Ok, so im having a bit of an issue. Ive got a 2004 F150 with the 5.4 and 3.73 LS rear, and Ive had the rear end replaced before for the whine. Well it came back a month after they repaired it, and that was a year ago. Ive learned to live with it. The thing is Im hearing some kind of roar from the rear. A real rough sound and I can hear it really loud at 30. Sounds just like a typical roar noise. The thing is I live in CA and work in AZ and dont have alot of time to get into the dealer. Can someone please help diagnose the sound and tell me the urgency of the noise? Like I said you can start to hear the roar at 20 peaking at 30 and then you can hear it at higher speed to a lesser extent.
Thanks!

You're going to have to break down and take it in. Sitting on it like that isn't going to get it fixed. I know there have been others with the bad gears, and even some dealership replacements from ford stock were bad. Just take it in.
The good news is I have the 100K warranty and am only at 82k...the bad is that I just dont have time to take it in...
That being said...is the grind causing physical damage leading to a breakdown, or can I wait a little bit longer?

And you might want to take into account that you have a duty to mitigate your own damages under most any warranty contract. If you are purposely neglecting a defect, and the defect causes greater damage than it would have had you given it prompt attention, you may be on the hook for the excess damage. Be smart about this one...
Best wishes.
