Rear Sensor Question

My son backed into a small bush and a limb took out the back left reversing sensor. Now when ever I put it into reverse I get a solid tone. Can I replace just that one sensor or do I have to replace the whole system? I haven't been to the dealer yet, that's always my last resort if I can fix it myself. Help!

Not totally sure on this one... seems like you could just replace one if you could splice it into the original wiring... not sure though.

I'm going to COPY this thread over to 2004+ as well... someone there, I bet, will know. I'll post a link back after this post so that you can access it quickly...

Don't quote me on this, but I think that they can just replace one sensor out of the four. I had one go bad last year and took it in for a fix. The item replaced on the warranty sheet was described as one of the optics in the bumper. I would just call parts to see what can be bought.

You can replace just one, but DO NOT try to cut splice the wire. Follow the wire to the "brain" box and replace. It kinda looks like a telephone connection, but the "wire" itself is fiber - not splice-able.

you can replace just one and if its the factory ones theres no need for splicing they plug right in like a headlight bulb. i took off my rear bumper and put a new one on and transfered everything over so i just unpluged them then pluged them back in

As you know this is what I'm trying to do. Why did you miss the Pismo trip, did you see the video's and pics? I want to buy the brain, the button and the sensors. I'll do the drilling...here are the parts I've found but it doesn't say how many sensors come with that $84 price tag. Also, if you work @ a dealership can you get these parts for below the cost posted on that site (aka dealer cost). Altogether it would be around $220 to build the Parking Sensor option while it's a $250 option.

Hope I've helped.
