Ouch! Looks like the lugs must have been over tightened or not rechecked when the new rims were put on.

Doesn't seem normal to me. There's some crazy stuff on those Texas back roads, trust me.

I am not sure if its the same thing or not...BUT I was looking at some "cheap" rotors like that for my Firebird and they came with the studs already in them. The only thing is the studs looked like pot metal....deffently not high grade bolts. I will almost bet you he had the same thing...ran them down with a impact wrench and broke them. I am not sure if the rotors on the truck hold the studs are not though.

Sounds like overtightening to me. It is not uncommon to see more that one stud broken once the first one fails. The stress is multiplied each time one breaks. I cannot imagine how to control a vehicle at high speed in that situation. Glad nobody was hurt.

I think that you are definitely on to something there. Cheap studs and overtightening = failure.

This is why I use a torque wrench when I tighten the lugs. When my truck goes in the shop I insist the tech use one too.

Good warning....but I don't think 04-07 F150 owners with OEM rotors etc should be worried.

That guy has a older body style with aftermarket rotors, etc, which increases his odds of having a reliability failure.

It does show how dangerous and damaging a failure could be though.
