the above are recent happenings to my truck. efans have been installed aprox. 30 days. no problems before I washed truck this time. When I washed my truck sunday the 3'rd brake light ingested a bunch of water. I usually back the truck up and hit the brakes to get the water off the roof, when I did about 2 cups of water ran down the inside of my rear window.
This morning, besides the radio on last night, the white lights on the 3'rd brake light where blinking on and off about once every two seconds. Truck started fine and when I got to work the radio turned off when I opened the door. Still at work so have no idea what it might be doing at the moment. Guess when I get home tonight I'll rip out the rear seat and check conectiosn back there. Not sure what it's called but believe the controller for keyless door pad entry is mounted behind there. PAC, PAL something like that, read it here somewhere before.
what else have you looked at besides the relays and steering column?
sorry if you've alreday answered these questions else where don't have a lot of time @ the moment to dig thru past threads.

I have found that if I disconnect the hot lead to the battery from my high temperature/air cond run fan, that the issue goes away. I have checked the grounds and they are all good, the fuses are all good, and there are no apparent wire issues. Disconnecting the power to the other fan does nothing . It is a possibility that the controller is bad. I am quitting for the night...

worked late last night so didn't have time to do anything but pray I got home ok. I was going to try the fan disconect trick and see what happened. it seems to be only intermittant though....last night everything worked fine...stopped at store on way home from work and radio shut off when door opened and agin when I home....did notice there is a "tick" in the dash somewhere like a relay opening and closing about every minute or so....
the hunt continues....
I had a similar problem on my 2000 F150. Radio would stay on, heater fan would stay on. Had to disconnect the battery. Would last a day or so then back to normal. Noticed it happened on days it snowed or rained. Stood on my head under the dash and found water. Could never find where it was coming in. Got rid of the truck.

not that it makes any differance but this is just so strange that we share the same last name and unfortunately the same gremlin inour trucks at the same time...
Marc,
I have concluded it must be the fan controller, I removed the inline fuse last night and no strange lights, radio problems this morning. The fuse was hot to the point I dropped it to avoid burning my fingers. Vendor is sending me a new controller, he agrees that a bad relay in the controller could be back feeding 12v hot to the switched fuse. Hopefully this will be the end of these wierd electrical issues.
hope you get your's resolved as well.

I am replacing both of my contorllers this weekend @ Mikes if I get the chance. I have isolated the hight temperature fan until I get down there.
Just curious, as you are a Carpenter, where is your fathers family from?
I have completed a 7 year geneology and can take the Carpenters that I descended from (English) back to 1740. Kind of a funny thing that although I live in Ohio as do many of my relations that aren't still in Erbacon W.Va., that my family was the first to settle what now is Covington Virginia, where I spend a lot of time at Mike Troyers shop...

Wish I lived a lil closer to home as I'd love to drop by Mikes shop. May have to take an extra day or two on the next trip home and stop by there.
I bought a 2000 f150 and had these same electrical problems after a heavy rain storm. I spent hours reviewing many posts about this issue and all led me to looking at a leak that initiates in the drivers side windshield Pillar. The water leaks in and drips on the GEM module which is located directly above the fuse box on the drivers side of the interior. The water causes all kinds of havoc sometimes even requires replacement of the GEM. In my case when the water dried out the next day all of the electical problems diasappeared. I found some flowable RTF windshield sealant and lifted the rubber windshield gasket that covers the drivers side pillar and sealed the body seams up the pillar and about 8 inches across the top. All of the sealant is covered up by the gasket and I haven't had a problem since. Want more info do a search for
GEM module leaks
and have fun reading, you ain't the only one with this problem. Good luck!
