Optima Red Top Battery

With all my aftermarket accessories and the cheap OEM battery I can really feel it trickling down everytime I start my truck after it sits a few days. Ive been looking into getting an Optima Red Top and searched here a little bit and found some good info but just want some more opinions from those of you who have one. First off, I'm a little confused by which model or what not fits our truck and secondly is it honestly really worth the huge price tag and all the hype. Also, where can I pick one up for a decent price. Thanks!

The yellow top has a deep cycle feature so you can listen to the radio for a while with out the battery draining and you can use other eletrical accesories the same way with teh truck off and still wont drain. The red top I herd is for using alot of power when the truck is on durring daily driving.....but it seems like the yellow top is the best all around. The blue is for Marine use, thats all I know.

Just finished last week with my stereo install which revolves around a JL Audio 500/5....thursday I went and picked up a Yellow top (for ha ha's) dont need it yet (truck has 4000 miles on it) but in the past Ive run bigger systems and always relied on yellow tops to do the job. Like everything else someone's going to pipe up and tell you their pieces of #$%^ and my brothers cousins uncle had one that died one week after buying it (blah blah blah) but truth of the matter is that they are very reliable and you can beat the crap out of them (there is always going to be the bad product from any company) but they (yellows) are well worth the money. I run two in my jeep Scrambler and have used them for about three yrs now with a winch, compressor, welder etc. if your need to buy a battery might as well get what you want.

Yep, yellowtop 34/78, make sure you get the adapter for the battery tray. Don't let them charge you extra for it either.

Costco sells Optima...but the one near me never has the yellowtop...just the red and blue.

BTW, If you have alot of electical accessories, you should do a Big 3 upgrade as well.

YELLOW > RED

don't buy the red. I've killed two off em in two different cars one was deep cycled to death and the other one blew up after meeting an unregulated alternator 18volts FTW

LOL STYX

red is fine unless you need deep cycling / storage capability. i run heavy loads to mine and play my music while i wax / work on my suspension.

the yellow is more of a storage battery that needs a lot of recharging. ive heard it go both ways but unless you drive ridiculously short communutes it shouldnt be a worry

If you get a Yellow Top, buy it local, and keep the receipt. I had two of them and both of them went bad a short time after purchasing them (a few months...) I know a lot of people that have had good luck with them and the red top batteries. Both of the cars would sit for a few days in between being used, so maybe that was the problem. Neither car had anything but the stock stereo either... I also never played the stereo if the car was not running either.. Again, a lot of my friends have had good luck with them though.

Ive had the Red Top in a few cars over the years. They are great for cold starts in below freezing temps. I believe the Red Top has more cold cranking amps then a Yellow Top so that would be my reason for getting a Red Top. Im on the OEM battery right now but once winter comes I will definatelty change over.

I've had Optima's in all my vehicles for years now. Great item, I've had zero problems with the batteries. I had a electrical drain on a previous truck and I was only driving it about 10 miles a day and the battery lasted about a week and a half. When the tow truck driver came to give me a jump he looked and said "Wow, that the first time I have EVER had to jump a Yellow Top" in my mind, enough said.

Brypink, funny how Costco's are , mine here always have the yellow and blues, never the reds. Great place to buy them though.
