Headlights

Anybody know of some good aftermaket bulbs I can put in my truck? I was looking for something brighter without going to the HIDs. Or HID wannabes. Also are there any bulbs that run too hot and can cause damamge to the plastic?

Thanks

Milo

The silverstars (H13ST/9008ST) are not out yet for the headlights of our trucks. I e-mailed sylvania about this a month ago and got a reply stating that they are doing R&D on them now and the bulbs will be out late fall or early winter. But you could replace your fog light bulbs with the 9005ST's, between the bulbs and the high beam with fog light mod there is a huge differance.

The TURN signals? You can replace those with 3157 (if I recall correctly) Silverstars. You'll get a bluish purple tint (look below)
instead of the orange look. I put my orange bulbs back in, just looks better with the orange sidemarker IMO.

You don't need to use the 9005ST, they make a 9145ST bulb for the fogs.

Also Sylvania makes the Xtravision H13 bulbs which are brighter than OE.

I do know about the 9145ST, but they aren't they only a 55 watt bulb? The 9005ST's are 65 watts and they fit. I for me the more light the better since where I live (rural wisconsin) I am surrounded by corn/bean/pea fields and lots of wooded areas, so that means whitetailed deer and lots of them. So the more light for me the better.

Thanks, I should be reunited with my truck around October (hopefully before), so I will keep an eye out for the silverstars' arrival. I just got some for the four banger up here and thats what got me thinking. BIG difference! I just wanted to find if anyone knew if there was anything bad about putting them in the truck. This was the first time I tried to put a better bulb in the headlights. Dont know why I never tried it before

Thanks
Milo

The reason I mentioned it is that with the 9005 headlight, you are pulling more power thru a wiring harness that may not be able to handle it. That is why some people have problems using higher powered lights and end up melting the wiring harness.
Aslo with fogs, the shape of the refector does not push the light out for distance, but short distance and side to side. The headlights and or driving lights are better for distance.
As far as deer, I know about them. Fortunately not by personnel experience. With more and more deer here in MD, and not enough hunting do to too much housing, I am seeing a lot more hits in the past 5 years than ever before.
