Costly gas changed your driving habits?

First of all I love my truck!

If gas was 10 bucks a gallon, I would still keep the truck and only drive it on Sunday...

Currently, I find myself driving my old 86 toyota pu more and more. I think if my ford was my only vehicle I could not afford to rely on it all the time. Since I have a 'spare', I alternate between them and cut costs, allowing me to keep and enjoy the ford.

How have your habits changed, if at all?

My boat get a little better than 2 miles a gallon. My family has been out once this year on it. I've had it out a total of 3 times. A family day on the water cost $50. not including food or anything else.

I'm not complaining about that at all when comparing the two.

It's summer, so I alternate between my '04 FX4 Reg. cab and my '03 Lightning. This way I buy expensive gas or more expensive gas.

The price of gas is still relatively cheap.

It hasn't changed a thing in my household.

with my new truck, mileage is close to the 04 F-150, I'm breaking even, The new truck use's mid grade and at a 1.15 per lt for reg here in Calgary Alberta, The 140.00 CDN flue ups for 700KM mixed city and highway driving are starting to eat into my Tim Hortins Coffiee funds, Coffiee is way more expensive than flue..

Yes it has, but mainly because my FX4 is our 3rd vehicle. I don't have the motivation to drive her unless we need to haul something or pull our trailer.

At $3.30 per gallon for regular here in San Diego, with just 13 mpg average, we only use her when the needs of a truck are required.

As of now, we have only put 3,000 miles on her in 2006! But we are a family of two with 3 vehicles, so we just don't have the time or need to put that much mileage on the truck.

Hasn't changed my habits one bit yet since most of my driving is local driving I can go 10 to 12 days between fill ups. Pretty much just drive back and forth to work and a little bit of cruising around localy is about all the driving I do.

Yeah, the price of gas sucks, but you know what, I think I drive my truck as much or more now than I did a year ago. Partly due to necessity, but it's typically just a weekend warrior for me anyway since I drive my company van all week. I just enjoy driving the truck!

I bought a motorcycle to use as a daily driver and for errands around town. Use the truck on the weekends, not as expensive $100 every 7-10days to fill up was getting to be too much.

First five years I had my truck I was averaging 16,500 miles per year.
I should have about 124,000 now.
Instead it has 96,000.
I want to post in the 100k mile thread but, I don't know when that day will come.

Yeah I sent my wife to visit her family in Ontario for a few weeks. While she's gone I can fuel up for less then 80 bucks a week!

Price has gone up nearly 50% in one year.

Just because it went up 50% doesn't mean it's still not a bargain.

It was priced way too low, for too long.

Have you ever run the numbers?

Do you know how much you are paying in 2006 inflation corrected dollars?

Do you realize how much a gallon of beer costs, or that bottled water you drink?

If a 50% increase in the price of gas is causing a hardship in your, or anyone else's family, you were doing something wrong in the first place.

Ever hear of "living within your means".
