Hard Tonneau?

Greetings! I just bought a 06 F150 flareside 6 1/2 ft bed, and would like to install a hard style tonneau cover. I had a Snug Top brand on my old '95 F150, and I loved it. What is my best choice for a hard shell tonneau on this new truck? Thanks, John

I have the newer ARE LSX on mine...worth the extra $120 for a snug fit compared to the older model with the edge trim.

I've been looking for a hard tonneau cover as well. I was told that A.R.E.'s were the best (specifically the LSII) but that Leer cover looks awfully nice.

I was quoted $925 installed on an ARE LSII. For those of you familiar, is that a fair price?

BTW..
When I was looking for Hard Tonneaus.., I checked several styles..
The one I liked most was one I have seen several times in other trucks, I got close to one and saw the brand.. "BoxTop"..
I checked in local dealers but no one sells that brand, and I coudn't find any info on the Internet.
So I ended up buying the LEER one which I like it very very much.
Few months later I found out that BoxTop costs like +1100us which for me is just ridiculous.

Saludos

Giorgio

just playing devils advocate,

they may not be able to stand on it, but their paint looks much better than that black plastic, not to mention, its way easier to break into an undercover than most fiberglass lids IE: a drill bit right through the face of both locking mechanisms on both sides, oh yeah, can you get carpet, e-locks, or a 100% waterproof seal?

Not sure about carpet or e-locks, but my Undercover provides 100% waterproofing... And it makes washing and waxing the roof of my '06 Screw a much easier task.

BTW, Giorgio - sweet ride!!!

Another thumbs up for the Leer 700....nothing but compliments when people see it, and it's made very well, with a top rate lift system and e-locks.

The Leer is very nice. My only complaint is that I had to remove it to haul anything bigger than my dog. Other than that, it was perfect.

Another option would be an aluminum Fold-A-Cover. Check my 05 Blue Crew gallery.

Another vote for the Undercover. It's light, durable and easy to use. Let alone less expensive.

As for it being waterproof or adding carpet and elocks. Yes you can.

Waterproof: make sure the gasket is properly alligned to go over the rim, no problems after that.

Carpet: I am planning on adding a BedRug, so there is the carpet.

E-locks: My buddy who does stereos, alarms, etc is helping me tie into the doorlocks from the truck and replace the stock locks on the Undercover. That way it'll lock, unlock with the doors and remote. The only thing we are trying to figure out is what to use to plug the holes from the stock locks.

As to anything being safer than anything else, I see way too many posts from people stating that some scum bag broke into their truck and took part XYZ. One poor guy had a JL Stealthbox stolen, and those are a total PIA to install or remove. So I guess I have a blaise attitude towards that. These along with everything else just help to keep honest people honest and make the dis-honest hopefully look for an easier mark.

The e-locks work you're doing piques my interest, SnowmaNick - I'd be interested as to how that works out for you!
