Does everyone's owners manual and gas cap state that Ford recommends using BP gasoline? Mine does. Wasn't sure if that has been around for a while or it's a 2006 thing? Any thoughts on that? My buddy works at Ford, maybe I'll ask him if it's because of the BP gas itself or some dirty backroom deal.

I usually use Hess or BP 87. I was always Mobil/Amoco or Cheveron with my Stang that had to have 93.

I use Conoco about 90% of the time. Otherwise I use the pumps at Fleet Farm (an upper midwest chain, same as Tractor Supply) and the nice little $.04/gallon discount. The strange thing is that even in the 3 bigger towns (population 70,000 La Crosse, 20,000 Onalaska, 15,000 Winona) I only know of 2 BP, 1 Shell, 0 Chevron, 0 Mobil. The rest of the gas stations are Kwik Trip/Kwik Star, or Conocos.

You guys realize 90% of the gas you buy was refined by some other company. Sticking to one Brand is pretty much useless. For instance, Shell will put "X" gallons of 87 octane in the pipe line. On the other end, Shell will down load "X" gallons, but it was most likely refined by BP or someone else. It's all refined to the same spec's.

On the other hand, some individual gas stations will have less water and sediment in their tanks than others.

For the most part you are correct. Most all the gas produce is put into a community pipeline ( for lack of a better word). The difference is in the additives that are added to the base stock ( 87 or 93 ). Your lower price stop and grabs may elect to not pay for the additives hence lower price of gas. Now what additives are added I don't know, because I don't deal with that part. Just adding to info chain..........

The town where I live the gas is always the same or within about a cent regardless of what "brand" it is, say exxon, shell, chevron, walmart/murphy, conoco, mobil, racetrac, raceway. Lots to choose from on the main drag through town.
