Anybody Know??? - Locker Question

Just got off the phone with 4wheel parts. The guy told me that there was no type of locker available for the rear of truck(9.75). There was only limited slip types available, (auburn). He also stated that for the front (8.8) there was only the detroit locker (not the tru-trac) and the eaton e-locker. Any one know if this is right? Or do they just not have it?

Thanks for the help in advance!
Milo

I bought a Eaton LS for the rear. I doubt you want a true locker for the rear, as it clatters and is not very street freindly.

Does the eaton LS make a big difference from the stock LS? Will both tires turn most of the time? Especially when that is the one tire you need? Any info about the front end? What I can put up there?

I bought it for srtrength on the street. My factory LS clutch was torn up and replaced and I was not impressed. Teh Eaton seems solid with my s/c and 4.56 gears.

Does anyone make a locker for the rear 9.75? Is the 9 inch the same as the 9.75 inch? Also would it be worth changing the stock limited slip for an aftermaket as the auburn or it the same thing just for trucks that came open?

The 9.75" and 9" are completely different, we have the 9.75". I have researched this before and I am almost positive there is a detroit locker avail. for the 9.75". Try calling a place like randy's ring and pinion. Unless you drive on ice a lot, the locker will be better suited for any type of offroading. The on road handling/noise factor is minimal, and most don't even notice it back there after a week or so. It clatters slightly around corners. Driving with a locker on the road could slightly enhance tire wear but higher frequency rotations could keep that in check.

There is a Detroit Locker for the 1997-2006 Fords with the 9.75" rear axle. Detroit Locker's part number is 225C194A.

Detroit TrueTrac (limited slip) for the 8.8" IFS front is part #912A548. The Detroit Locker is not offered for the front (and you probably wouldn't want a locker in front anyway).

If you put lockers or any decent LS in the front you are bound to break something if you're on a decent mud terrain larger than 35"+ tires. There is not a huge difference in 37's from 35's and the transfercase is getting eaten alive, I'm going to drain it to look for shavings. You'd be fine on 33's or lower with a locking diff in the front, but thats not even a worthy wheeler.

Im going to get 35s with the lift. One question that I have have not been able to get answered is that if I put a limited slip in the front will it always be limited slip or will it only be limited slip when the 4x4 is engaged?

Okay, I just got off the phone with Randy's. Heres the deal. The True-Trac is available for the front and rear. They are lock up when enough torque is applied. The front will only be a factor when the truck is 4x4 and enough torque is applied. (Guess I should have called before asking). This is what Im looking at, what do you guys think.

Detroit True-Trac (front and rear)
Yukon 4.88 gears
Install kits( new bearings and all that good stuff)

Shipped 1864

I think the only 35's I'd be worried about running are the Mud Grapplers, they don't make anything else for us that is as risky as these running an aftermarket diff. At least we know we wont blow out on the trail (in example, boggers are prone to punctering down the middle crevasse). Your setup will be a good combo, what tires?

Im really leaning to the Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial (35s). I have the same thing in 33s right now. I really like them. I only have about 4000 miles on them so I guess I can sell them after I get the 35s. I was thinking about the Nitto MGs because they are the lowest cost of the tires I like, but not after what you just put. I know you have had them for a while. I was also thinking of the BFG Mud Terrain. I had them on my 01 scab. They had 55000 miles on them and still had enough tread to get the job done. Plus they are a little cheaper than the mickey thompsons. I dont really know yet but I really like the Mickeys. Ill be back home at the end of September so should have enough to order this stuff without touching the funds for the lift and tires.......and programmer..........and trac bars. Whats bad about the nittos? Too heavy?
