I have my 30 K service coming up and want to save some money from the stealerships and install my own fuel filter.
Any recommendations as to websites that sell the fuel filter for a 2004 F150 5.4 L?
Where is the fuel filter located?

You can get them from a local parts house: Motorcraft FG-986B. The filter is inside the frame rail on the driver's side below the driver's door. You will need to get a line disconnect tool to release the special clips on each end of the filter.

As for price, I got mine for $11.00 + taxe$ at Advance Auto.

 

I bought mine at O'Rielly's for $11plus, the special tool was about $10. Takes about 10 minutes to change.

 

CAUTION--DO NOT PULL BLUE CLIP OFF!

just very light to pry it with SMALL flat screwdrive a bit then use fingers to pull upward but DO NOT REMOVE IT!

Actually the clips do not need to be pryed on with anything. The line disconnect tool is inserted between the line and the clip to release it. If anything else is used you will damage the clip, cause it to leak and have the joy of buying a new fuel line. The plastic clips have the appearance of needing to be pulled out to release the filter but don't do it. Use the right tool for the job.
