Installed a new HU...AVIC-Z1

Well, I took a ride to PC Richards, and walked out with a Z1. Got a pretty good deal from an "authorized" dealer and they gave me a 3 year warranty for 99 bucks. Here are some pics, I also made a "cover" for it to keep the direct sunlight off of the screen, and hopefully deter a a possible thief. Have only used it for a a few miles, but so far it is very high on the fun factor scale.

Check out my gallery for pics

That is bad ***. I want one of those sooooooo bad but don't have the funds right now to buy one. There is a bypass switch you can buy for $30 to make it so your passengers can watch a dvd while you are driving. Check out avic411.com, that's where I have been reading up on these.

Already found that site, bought the bypass, installed it,and my "passengers" are enjoying full navigation control and dvd on the move.

Yeah I did, bought the wire harness and Metra Kit from Crutchfield. The radio was on my table at 2:30, solderled and taped the connections to the harness, including the bypass, and had it hooked up to the backseat DVD screens (already installed 1 year), and installed by 6:30. I did alot of research for about 2 weeks, and basically had everthing written down...went very smooth.

yup it all works.....as the POIs show on the screen while driving, just tap it and it gives all the details, phone # etc. This will only work with the bypass.

congrats.

I have the Z1, XM Radio and NavTraffic Unit, iPod Controls, and BT unit. I love them all.

Only problem is my audiophile stock sub stoped working yesterday. I think the ground came lose on the wiring resisitors I made to get rid of the horrid sub thump.

How and what did you use to make a cover?

Duke

I used the trim piece that cam with the Z1, I took a black tank top from my wife,(got a from the wife, oh well) and cut a piece and hot glued it to the back of the trim piece. I then took a electrical socket childrens plug, the clear one and cut it in half, glued it to the back of the trim piece so the prongs stuck out. The prongs stick in the space between the HU and the Metra kit. it installs and comes off in like two seconds. The prongs are very sturdy too, I have never had one break when prying it out of a electrical socket.

Tonight I plan on putting a Ford Logo, on the front of the cover using an iron-on or something. i will post some pics when it is done,

There are more pics on avic411.com....Z1 General....I posted them last night.

Awesome. I still have that plate too. I'll probably take a look at trying something like this next week.
