Where should the 5.4L idle (RPMS)?

What is the spec on idle for the 5.4L's?

My truck is idling at around 650 RPMS. Sometimes feels a tad rough.

Where should it be?

About 800 rpm, hot in park, give or take 50. I've fixed low idle concerns on these trucks with PCM recalibrations.

So you recommend I take it in and have them adjust? I'm not pleased with the rough idle..

You have an edge don't you? Just bump the idle up a bit. Mine idles around 650 also but it feels fine.

Yes, I do have the edge. Didn't think of that.

When you bump the idle, its done in a custom tune, right? Chosen by RPM?

Yes, the idle change is only in the LEVEL 3, custom. A co-worker talked to someone at Edge and they advised him to set the idle at 1000. I tried that on mine and it was just too much. With stock tune, mine idled at 750, on Level 3, I bumped it to 800 and that seems just right for me.

You might want to double check that. I'm running level 2 and if I recall correctly the Idle RPM adjustment was on there. I could be wrong.

It is not on my level 2. A friend here at work was running level 3 with 87 octane and never heard any detonation. I was surprised. This is my first tank of 93. There is a lot of difference between level 2 and level 3, both in performance and amount of customizing available.

In park my '05 5.4L idles right around 600 and feels fine. In neutral i believe it jumps up to 650ish. When i first start the truck I get a high idle, up around 1200 and after a while (minute or two) it will creep back down to 600ish.

4x4's and 4x2's have different stock idle speeds due to the torque converter. Idle also depends on if your AC is on, electric fans, manual clutching fans and other FEAD loads.

600-700 for stock is normal.

In stock form, my idles right at 650. However, I bump mine up by 50 RPM to 700 to stop a stupid rattle that nobody can isolate. Maybe it's just me, but the 50 RPM jump is definately noticable to me, and not in a good way. It seems that it takes more brake pressure to keep the truck at a stop. And I get the brake-creek sound immediately before it comes to a complete stop. Kinda annoying, but better than that freaking rattle.
