LOL...not a novel....but a few of the anwsers I was looking for....me and a friend were gonna try something simular....both of us being aircraft sheet metal mech's....figured we'd bang something together....kinda prototype it then have a HVAC place make the final install shroud.....I'm not real warm and fuzzy with the fans being mounted directly to the core myself

I'm pretty happy with the way everything turned out, with the exception of a bit of vibration from one of the fans. Get what you pay for I guess.
another question for you....do you know for sure that it's coming from the fan itself or some resonant frequency thing from being mounted on the metal shroud?? if it's the fan guess you SOL....but if it's from the way thier mounted...perhaps a small firewall grommet under each screw would help....had to do this for my bench mounted drill press....thing was driving me nuts vibrating the bench...

any further info on selling a few?? perhaps you could patent the shroud

the core doesn't degrade persay....you just don't the fans pulling air thru 100% of the core surface....only the area the fans are actually covering

Maybe degrade wasn't the best wording. More like disintegrate. The vibration from the fans, when mounted with push pins through the fins, will eventually cause the fin to break down. After time, you have the entire weight of the fan resting on the .004" thick tubes, which is not a good thing.

My guess on the vibes is that the shroud needs a center reinforcment. With two fans spinning together, there's some crazy harmonics going on, and the large span of metal is amplifing them. It's wasn't constant either. There was a high freq. vibe for about 3 secs, 30 seconds of smooth, then the vibe again.

After watching the fans cycle for a while though, it's really not a concern. They don't run long enough to even hit full RPM, where the vibe happens.

Anybody work with metal a lot. It may be easier for them to access some tool to make the fan shroud. The only tool I have are a sledgehammer and a phillips screw driver. I dont think that will do. I asked the guy on ebay if he was ever thinking about selling the shrouds by themselves. He said no. That sucks.

Hmmm - I don't remember telling someone no. I think my form letter answer to everyone that asks about the shroud is:

"I have plans of offering the shroud separate in the future, but currently this full kit is all I have available..."

To be honest, I had no clue there would be this kind of interest in the sheet metal. I may have to push things along a little faster.

I've talked to Eric, he said this will take a little time, thats not a NO....

My 16" fans are in the box on the shelf waiting, I'm in no hurry..
Still working on a Audio System..

I want them mounted to a Shroud, not to the Rad... besides, I think it would be less of a warrenty issure with Ford on E-fans if they aren't mounted to the cores on the Rad....

Update?

Found this thread just surfing, and was impressed with the shroud you had fabricated. Just checking for updates on your offering it or the design to be fabricated locally.
