Ahh... the long box

Let's say your looking for a newer used F150 (04 05) but you must have an 8' box. I have been on a quest looking for a newer used s cab or reg cab longbox 4x4 f150 LOADED, but there so hard to come by it's almost impossible..
Does anyone know since these are so hard to come by if they are just made in a specific plant(s)? If so, that would help me in my search using vin #'s.

thanks

Typically, the long boxes seem to be available on the lower trim level work trucks.

Mine was built in Norfolk. I believe you can only get the long box in XL or XLT trim. I got mine last August and there weren't a whole lot of them available new. They are out there though, good luck.

You are searching by position 5,6,7?
Looking for F14 or X14?

Those trucks were built at all the f150 plants.

It's a pain, the vin won't get more specific.
A 6 and 8 foot bed are two different trucks.

My work has me traveling all over the country. One thing I've noticed is that different styles of trucks seem to be more popular in different markets.

For example, down here in Texas, standard cab trucks are generally few-and-far between. I knew early on when looking at the dealers lots that to get the truck I wanted (standard cab, short box, XLT trim) I would have to special order the vehicle. However, in other places I travel (St. Louis immediately jumps to mind) I see standard cab trucks all over the place.

So if a certain configuration isn't "popular" in your market, you might have to search a little bit more for the truck you want -- especially when you're buying used!

It's discrimination, that's what it is!!!
I would love to have a reg cab or s cab 8' box in a lariet but there is no such thing.
Iv'e been looking on auto trader and you can't do a word search for "long" or "8'" or anything like that and it isn't always in the description unless you actually click on it and read it. So I though if there was something in the vin that might help...
The scab 8'box 4x4's Iv'e found have f14 or x18 in the 5,6,7 vin position, but no x14.
Thanks

I live in a town with only two Ford dealerships and no where close to any other city. I wanted to buy new but the cost of a special oder was to much for me so I just went back and forth every once in a while and just finding a regular cab was a pain little lone a reg. cab long box but I finially found one with everything I wanted; XLT, 4x4, Silver. Just got lucky I guess.
Keep searching you'll find her.

Most of the 8' box trucks I see, mine included, are fully loaded XLT supercabs with the Heavy Duty package. Maybe you can use "Heavy Duty package" in your search. Used will be harder to find. However, new ones are easily found on forddirect.com I just searched and found 3 of them at the first dealer.

You know that X18 is a Heritage model 4x4?

An F14 with an 8 foot is what you are looking for right?
That's a regular cab 4x4, new bodystyle.

I have a '99 s-cab 8' box now. It is the 5th one I have owned in that configuration over the years in either an f150 or a f250. And every time I have bought one, I gone on this same quest and eventually found one and I'm sure I will this time too. Some have been work trucks, some have been Sundaygotomeetin trucks. I'm looking for the later right now. I can't see spending the kind of money it would take to get what I want in ordering a new truck. So I would like to find something in the newer body style in a used. Might even settle for a reg cab if it was the right truck. I am a contractor and I don't use my truck to get bread and milk at the convenience store, it's the "run and pick up 10 sheets of 4x8 sheetrock" or the "throw all that junk in the back of my truck" truck. It's also my office and I spend a lot of time in it. Nothing wrong with the truck I have now, as a matter of fact it's been a GREAT truck, and I still like it. Just thought I'd like a change (you know how it is).
Thanks for the link for the VIN#'s.

I believe the Longbox isn't made at Derborn Truck Plant. Mine was make at Norfolk.
