is it easy to remove stock cluster?

I want to swap my stock FX4 gauges for some SS Nu Image gauge dials and was wondering the best way to remove the cluster. I dont see any screws visually exposed. Am I going to be taking my dash half apart? Tips, tricks and hints are appreciated.

The cowl or cover is held in place with tensioned clips. You can simply pull it up and towards you and it will come off. Once that is off, you will see four hex head screws holding the cluster to the dash. I believe they are 8mm. A good deep well socket and an extension allows them to be removed withoout scratch the dash or clear cluster lens. Remove the two harnesses from the top of the cluster. Lastly, remove the shift indicator by sliding your fingers in the recessed area tehe indicator sits in. Inside you will feel two tabs. Gently squeeze them towards the center and the indicator slides right out. Very easy and only takes about ten minutes. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice but just to make sure and not to sound like a goof but when you say the "cowl or cover" are you refering to the domed portion of the dash above the gauges? Thank you.

Yes, the domed piece! No tools should be needed. I just used my fingers to ensure I didn't scratch or damage anything.

Thanks,I will give it a tug. Next question. The directions that came with the SS gauge said to start up the truck and give it a couple of revs and make a note to where the gauges are and then reinstall the same way after. This does not really make sense to me because i think they could be off a little once reinstalled. Would it not make more sense to reinstall the needles the same way they lie when the truck is cold and in the off position? What do you think?

Im not sure yet. Let me get the new one in first and I will decide what/if I want to get rid of the stock one. I am starting to get a stash of parts I may need to post in the classifieds soon.

I got mine off of ebay man so you may want to snoop around there. You can probably get it cheaper also. When I purchased mine it was just the stock green backlight which is what I wanted. The back of my box says for the FX4 it says either green or red numerals so I dont know about the blue you want. Good luck.

yea i just found 1 on ebay, but it doesn't look good compared to the current fx4 cluster with the round plastic peices around the gauges, jus looks sleeker, is there any way to mod the current cluster with Blue lights, ie what does the back of the cluster look like, is it jus a colored plastic that i can swap out?

Thanks for the answer if you know it.

Another question is that if you swap the cluster for one of a different color can you change the indicators behind the temp controls to match or will they remain green?

Thanks
