Question Best time of year to purchase 07 Lariat or HD?

Hello everyone,
I stopped by my local dealer Friday to find out that next week the ordering and pricing begins for 07 F-150's, and talked to them about options. Information is still sketchy, but they did have a mini foldout brochure of 07 offerings. So here's my question: I've been waiting two years to buy my Lariat or HD, and been saving my pennies for a nice, near 50% down payment. Since I've waited this long already, I don't mind waiting a bit longer. What is the best time of year to make a purchase? Christmas time? I don't think I want to wait until 07 MY end, but mid MY would probably work. I do know that they won't bargain down as well on the Harley as they might on the Lariat, so there's that. And one other question: Can't I get a dealer to put in all the optional minor accessories like mud flaps and the like into the final deal? The one I talked to Friday seemed to want to have me purchase the minor accessories separately. I think I want to create a shopping list and submit it to all the local dealers for a quote, all inclusive, just like I do at work.
Thanks,
JSB

Your probably not gonna get a very good deal off sticker until at least mid model year. The best time is of course end of MY because of the clearance sales, need to free up room for the new MY, excess inventory, etc. And like you said in your post, your probably not gonna get that much off on an HD.

Some dealers are willing to throw in a few extras if you purchase and some aren't it's definitely gonna depend on where you go. Just do your homework, get quotes, shop around, then let the bidding begin. Let the dealership cater to you not the other way around. Remember your the one spending 10's of thousands of dollars so be picky. Good luck

October - November of 2007 is when I have always found the best deals because the 2008's will be out by then.

Wait until they have the 07's on the lot. Check to see if they have any 06's left. If they do, show up on the LAST DAY of the month with CASH down payment and wheel & deal on a 06. Not a check or CC, Benjamins. The last 3 cars I bought for my wife, I did in this manner. Saved lots of $$$ all 3 times.

Utilizing this method, I paid:

$14000 for a 2000 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with a sticker of $17700 on March 31st.
$19000 for a 2003 VW Jetta GLS 1.8t Sport with a sticker of $23300 on November 30th.
$22500 for a 2006 VW GTI with a sticker of $24200 on June 30th.

I did the same thing with my 2000 VFR800fi & 1989 Hawk NT650GT. With the VFR I showed up with a $3000 CASH down payment, named my priced and said "take it or leave it". I got a $9900 MSRP VFR out the door for $8700 on April 30th. That one got stolen 4 days later with 87 miles on the odometer. The bike I replaced it with (only 4 digits later on the VIN, meaning they left the factory on the same day) I did the exact same thing, at the exact same dealer, with the exact same salesman, on May 31st. With the Hawk, I showed up at the guys house with 40 $100 bills & an empty truck bed. Got a collectors item motorcycle in immaculate condition for $750 less than what he was asking.

With dealers, I found the most reliable method to get a break on the price is to listen to their "final offer" and say, "No thanks" & get up & head straight for the door. They will usually offer an incentive of sorts just to keep you there. In the case of the GTI I just bought Friday, I got the price down from $24200 to $22500 just due to wheeling & dealing & being a return customer to that same dealer. As a rule, VW DOES NOT wheel & deal on the GTI's or GLI's. VW Credit was offering 5.4%. I can get 4.9% all day long at my CU. I listened to everything the sales guy had to say and then simply said "no thanks, I can get a better rate from my CU, you'll have to do better or I'm outta here". This wasn't actual wheeling and dealing, I was planning to finance thru my bank anyway. I was going to leave the dealer, go to the bank with the VIN and come back with a check. The sales guy didn't know this so he panicked and got the finance manager to lower the rate to 4.9%.

Above ANYTHING else, you must be willing to get up and walk. You can always find a deal, you just have to be patient.

KC-10 FE out...

I bought my 05 (left over) Jan.28,06 Lariat 5.4, 4x4, 373, with dealer installed dual dvd headrest, linex liner, tonnoue cover, 5 year bumper to bumper warranty and a 3year service contract oil changes every 3k. The msrp was almost 42k and I got it out the door for 34,500 including taxes and tags. It's a great truck, just drinks a lot. Good luck

Correct me if I'm wrong, on the HD's, the 2008's will be here in Jan - Feb of 2007 as 2008 models with the new front end. If you're looking for a great deal on an HD, look around Oct - Nov of THIS year and early into next year. The '07 HD's will be a short build to get rid of the extra stuff...

Many people have differing opinions about when to get the best deal on a new car. I have found the following to be true from my own experiences.

End of model year (Aug 2007) is probably the best time to buy, Carry-overs (after Aug 2007) are good deals, but your selection is drastically reduced, and December (2006) can be favoriable, I'll explain.

If you can't wait till Aug. 2007 then End of the calendar year (i.e. December 2006) is a good time to buy for a couple of reasons.
a) Many potential buyers are focused on the upcomming holidays and already committed funds to vacations, home improvements for arriving guest and are not into buying a new car. So the traffic of buyers is quite low at the dealerships.
b) Sales are usually down at the dealerships because of foul weather. Rain, snow, and ice rarely make for a good car buying experience.
c) Dealerships may be close to the next tier in bonuses if they sell a few more units.

Regardless of when you buy, look for trucks that have been on the lot for a long time (3 months). Most dealerships try to rotate their stock every 90 days. If a vehicle is still on their lot beyond this time then it is eating into their profits because of the interest payments that the dealer makes to manufacturer on their "floor plan". The dealership is less likely to make great deals on vehicles that sell the most. Often the best deals are found on trim levels and colors that are less desirable because these vehicles don't sell quickly and are likely to start costing the dealership money.

Do your homework and track the trucks that have been on the lots since late September or early October. These are the trucks that they are now making interest payments on (aka costing them money). You can do this by looking at the trucks that fit your requirements and finding the buid date on the label inside the driver's door. Find one the has a build date of atleast 3 months old. Chances are that with slow sales, end of year bonuses, and stock more than 3 months old they will be willing to deal generously.

I agree with Ox, I traded my 05 for an 06 last week of December of 05. Got $7000.00 off msrp. Then the first week in January, the best you could get was $4000.00 off msrp - basically, just the dealer claimed invoice. Just keep watching, and get in on it when one of the rebate specials start.
