Wannabee F150 owner with a question...

I found a 2004 f150 Lariat Scab with 27000 miles on it and the seller wants what he owes on the loan. My question...is it customary to offer a seller less than pay-off depending on the condition of the truck? He owes just over 20000...thanks for your feedback. I am in custody of the truck for a while so I will be checking it out with a fine brush.

I think 20,000 is a good price if it is in excellent condition. You can check kelley blue book online (kbb.com) to know exactly what it is worth.

$20K is fair for the 4x4. Not sure an '04 4x2 would get $20K. It would have to be near mint condition.

I have heard of people buying a vehicle for the pay-off amount a few times. Is the truck 2WD or 4WD? If it is just a 2wd I think that the price is a high, but for a 4WD sounds pretty good. Back in Januray I paid $19990 for my (see sig) 04 FX4 fully loaded (leather, deluxe mirrors, power everything, ect) with 30,500 miles .

I wouldn't call it mint. It has a couple dings on the rear bumper and one on the driver door, with paint chipped off on the front right and left painted bumper corners. The interior is close to mint. Also, it's not a 4x4.

I have to say DON"T BUY IT, I bought my estencab xlt brand spankin new with 4 miles on it for 19K and included a sprayon bedliner, tint all around, front bug shield at no extra cost, that truck is already out of warranty, so for 20k you should get a new one

The truck still has 9,000 miles left on the factory warranty.
I say if you like it buy it. But don't pay $20K for it. Check KBB and see what it's worth in prefect condition and then deduct what it would cost you get the bumper and the door fixed.

I agree with polo2005, 20k is too much for a used 4x2. Especially if it has the external blemishes that you described. Better off buying a new one with factory financing!!

I test drove a 2004 lariat 2wd Screw yesterday and that's what turned me on to this f-series after looking at Frontiers and Tacomas. But the Screw has the shift on the floor/console which is really cool and it has a tonneau fiberglass top, and it is virtually spotless inside and out. The stealer is asking $22,500. I think it is my first love...

prefered offset for 20 or 22" wheels?

OK my 18x7.5" FX4 wheels have 44mm offset. Would 22x9.5 or even a 20x9.5 maybe with a +35 offset stay tucked up in the wheel wells or stick out some? Thanks fellas.

My Roush 20x8.5" wheels have 38mm offset and stick out a little bit.

I would say that is definitely too high for an '04 with that many miles. I just picked up my '06 Lariat (with center console and shifter) fully loaded with 41 miles for just over $25k. I would keep looking around if I were you, or just spring for a new one.
