Would you or did you?

I am about to reach the 30,000 mile mark where it is recommended that I have the transmission fluid changed. I have towed a light trailer a couple of times for short distances, so basically towing is not an issue. I have never had transmission fluid changed in a vehicle and have never had problems. I really hate to have things "messed" with as often it causes more problems than it fixes. Just curious how many of you had it done.

I plan on doing all the regulary maintenance.

I am only just closing in on 20k but I did the 15k service.

38K miles and haven't done it yet. I only tow a trailer about 6 times per year in relatively flat Ohio. I'll probably get around to it at 50K or so.

I change the fuel filter myself, did it at about 17,000. have the drop in K & N that I take care of myself. I know my brakes are good, I did my own pads to get rid of the dust.

I had mine done at 30K. Now i'm at 35K and everything tranny wise has been smooth. In fact there use to be a vibration when starting off pulling the boat now that seems to have dissapeared.

That's right, if something should ever happen to my truck all the maintenance records are right there in front of them.

Yes, I definately suggest servicing the tranny. See, an auto tranny works off of fluid pressure(relatively speaking). So imagine what happens to that pressure when the fluid breaks down and gets thin/dirty. It puts undue strain on the internals. It's the same theory behind changing your engine oil....I'm sure you change it regularly right? Same thing.

I've had a few people I've known, including family that had to have transmissions replaced pre-maturely due to lack of servicing them. Just think of the cost man. Is 80-100 dollars worth more than piece of mind??

I had mine changed around 30k in my 04 FX4, cost about ~$140 at the local Ford service center.

I had a cheaper quote from another place but they didn't have the tranny flush. If you don't flush the system there is still about 4 quarts not in the pan thats still stuck in the engine. You wouldn't only change part of your oil would you?

Damn, 140 is outrageous. Is tranny flushing really that difficult? I can change the oil and Transfer case fluids just fine. So back to my question, what kind of fluid do we use in our Transfer case, just typical auto tranny fluid?

X3

And correct me if im wrong but I think they take Mercon V in the tranny which if im not mistaken is hit and miss to find anywhere but at a Ford dealer, not certain about the transfer case.

EDIT: The manual calls for MERCON ATF.
