Brake Dust

I cant believe the amount of brake dust that my front wheels have in just over 2 weeks. I had a 2004 F150 XLT 4x4 SCREW and the brake dust was bad. I thought it would be better with a newer truck but I guess that is not true. I might have to go out and get better pads. Im going to get tired cleaning my wheels. Any suggestions. I only have 700 miles on EBY.

I guess you haven't been on these forums too long? A bunch of us already changed the pads out to get rid of the dust. Myself and many others have had good success with Porterfield carbon kevlar pads. You can get them from the guy on ebay for $95 shipped.

Next time you are out driving, pay attention to other cars fornt wheels. This is now a common sight on all new cars. Black or brown front rims.

I put on Wagner Thermo Quiets which is a top of the line semi-metallic. Working very well for about 18,000 miles now, have enough dust to notice after 10 to 12 days, very light. I usually wash the truck once a week so it the dust is now a non issue.

I put Kleen Wheels on my 2005, and never had a problem again in 40,000 miles. I would buy them in a minute again if i buy another F-150. They are thin aluminum liner "dishes" that fit behind the wheel to keep the dust off the rims. They work fantastic.

I have to vouch for these pads as well. They definitely increased by ability to stop (brought back the feel of stock plus a little better after adding 22 inch rims).

I also don't have ANY brake dust and it's been a week full of hard stops.

$79 purchased from my local GoodYear. They are silent as well. No squeeking what so ever.

Me too, the best $40 I've spent so far. I got a set for front and rear so they don't have to be removed during rotation. I've got about 20K miles on them, no problems at all.

Well all ceramics are different, I've had carbon kevlar (same as stock), various other ceramic brands but only Akebono are brake dust free. Raybestos have dust like stock along with the Eagle/Hawk brand ceramics. I'd just go with whats proven, I waisted money on grabbing other pads because I couldn't find the Akebono's (ordered online eventually). Brakejobs are very easy, have your man do it :P

My truck just went nine days for the first time without washing the whole truck (due to incessant rain), but I finally washed the wheels yesterday. They were NASTY, (with) stock pads. For some reason the front right is the dirtiest by far, just like my S-10. It must be how I drive or where I live.

here's an inexpensive fix to the brakedust problem. go get yourself a mr. clean car wash mashine. (probrably seen it on TV). after you have cleaned your truck.... clean your tires and wheels just like you always do. then use the mr. clean machine and spray the filtered water onto the wheels and tires. soak them really good.

you will not have any brake dust for at least 2 weeks. i had this happen to me by accident. since then i always spray my tires and wheels and no more dust. the filtered water does something to the wheels and tires. not sure how or why it works but it does. when it rains, in the next couple days i start to see the dust again.

try it. it works and its a cheap fix.
