Wanted: New car smell.
Wanted: New car smell.
I love the smell of a new car/truck. My truck is missing it. I don't smoke and I keep my truck really clean. Is there any way to get the new car scent? I have heard that dealers use something on their preowned cars. I smelled one of those "new car scent" trees at Pepboys, they must have been
cause it smelled like butt. Any help is appreciated.

Actually some reports indicate that the "new car smell" may be harmful to your health. Research has determined that the smell is created by the plastics, paint, and glues releasing toxic chemicals as they cure following assembly. Some of the toxic chemicals that are released, including benzene and formaldehyde, are known carcinogens (linked to cause cancers). Whats even worse is that these toxic chemicals are released at an increased rate durring the summer months (peak car buying time) because on increased cabin temperatures.

I guess I will stick to the pinacolada spray at the local carwash

Just like any air freshener I've tried before, I smell it the first day or so, then it's gone, but people that ride with me say they can smell it for months. I don't smell the new in my truck anymore, but it's still there I'm sure. I'm just used to it.
No..it goes away. My dad bought his Screw a little over a year after I bought mine and I had forgotten how mine smelt new until I rode in his. Now his smells just like mine.
BTW I bought a 87 Firebird Formula a couple days ago to play with...I hope I get use to the OLD CAR SMELL. (Actually its a very nice project car...but it still stinks!)

I also miss the smell, but almost a year old and I still hear that the truck smells great.
I think leather really helps..

You guys may not believe this, but my wife has 2000 Expediton with only 7750 miles on it. Almost 5000 of that was highway miles the first 6 months after we got it. It sits in the garage all the time, driven every couple of months. It still has the new car smell and still has the paper floor mats from the dealer. I washed it the other day and it looks and smells just like new. Black with the tan interior.
