Couple of Volant Questions...

I posted here a while ago saying that I purchased a Volant kit from another member here. It was the old model (with the carbon fiber lid). I read about the problems with this model sometimes causing the lean condition. Another member responded to one of my posts and said he had the new style tube just laying around, and would send it to me. Recently I got an email from him saying he got injured and the shipment would be delayed.

So here are my questions:

1. If I do get the lean condition, can I use my Edge to change the A/F ratio to correct it before I get the new tube?

2. Does anyone here have the Volant with carbon fiber lid and has not yet thrown a CEL?

3. If for some reason, I can't get the tube from this other member - is there another way to get one? I called Volant directly and they said I would have to produce a receipt and they would replace it under warranty. Besides that, you can't even buy a tube.

Any help here guys?

I have a volant kit with a carbon fiber lid; I haven't had any troubles with it. I recently added the ram air tube and still no troubles. I don't think you can change A/F ratio's with the edge, I may be wrong however. If it was mine I'd install it, it might not cause the truck to go lean. If it does then I'd start worrying about it.

LSU - that's reassuring to know that someone has the carbon lid and no problems. I am going to install it this weekend, and will keep my fingers crossed. The previous owner said he had no problems running lean.

I got the newer style Volant. I think you all should just throw away the lid and run like the wind!!! I took the lid off, and it runs better!!! I wish i had the AF1 instead, but since i had bought this, i feel that removing the lid, It runs similar to the AF1. The volant is restrictive when enclosed, but removing the lid adds more......So i'm asking for someone else to try it and tell me what you think.. I'm Lidless for now, and I'm loving it

Never really thought about it, but what is the point of the lid?

I guess I could see if you are running the ram air scoop, this would keep the air in the box. But without the scoop, what is the difference?

The lid is just to make it a cold air kit. I feel that idle it might be a tad bit cooler, but what is the point? So the engine compartment is warmer at idle, but when you take off, it will have cool air instantly right? I feel that the volant is good, but it feels like it's not getting enough air. I went to Troyers Dyno day and my truck did not perform as well as the AF1 guy's. That is where they named me Dyno Hog. I spent along time on the dyno getting my truck set up. I personally feel that the lid removal is the way to go. Try it and let me know, I've been on pain killers lately and it could be just me.

Nope. You can't change the A/F ratio with the Edge Evolution.

I might give it a shot. I got the ram air tube, so I am afraid that it would negate that. But, hey, if I dont notice a difference, I just pop the lid back on in 30 seconds.

Also, mine came with the carbon fiber lid that I dont like, so I am going to be making one out of brushed aluminum....should look really good!

I feel when you get on it it opens up more. Just a little bit more air. When the lid is on it, it can only pull air through the 3 little openings. But when the lid is off, it can pull alot more. I think the lid is the Wow factor and looks good. Call me a crack head, but i'm loving it with out any CEL's so far.

Those 3 "little" openings are not so little, ok maybe one is, but the other two are large. For $15 I made my own ram air kit out of dryer vent hose and a rubber drain reducer. Has way less restrictions and bends than the $125 volant tube!

mkinttrim - I saw your design and it was really really good!!! I would have def done that if I didn't get the sweet deal I did on my kit.

And if I ever upgrade to bigger wheels/tires - to the point where I get the rubbing issue - I will def sell my tube and follow your design!

Not the prettiest thing in the world but it works as good or probably better.

Doesn't need to be pretty. No one will ever really see it, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you built it and it works just as well if not better.
