Limited Slip

My truck has 3.73 rear end that is open. How do I figure the size of the rear end? I would like to place a limited slip diff on it. Can I use the same Ring and Pinion gear and How expensive is it to install? I have a 2006 SCAB Lariat.

Your rear is the sterling 9.75, not sure on the spline count. Yes you can use the same R&P and the install shouldn't be too bad, it is much less labor than a gear swap (around $500). Good luck.

i highly recommend you to get detriot true trac. its way better than POS factory limit slip.

I believe you can re-use the gears but you will need new bearings, shims etc "overhaul kit".

Good luck!

So the true trac would be the better way to go instead of picking up the factory LS. I been wanting to do this upgrade since when it snows here and with out is I need to run 4 wheel drive all the time. So some time between here and winter I will be doing this.

How much would that cost me to have installed? I am not going to try and do it myself.

I don't think I would try it if I were you. Properly setting up the rear end is a real art. If you don't get it just right, it will make a noise and then you will have to replace the gears.

To install the gears, its very picky and headache.. I highly recommend to have some race car shop or 4x4 shop do it for you. be sure they offer warranty on install and labor.
Detriot True trac has all gears, no wear parts will need to replace, not like factory limit slip that will need rebuilt at about 50K milages or so. also factory limit slip has clutch pack but detriot true trac doesnt!

If i have money, i would get 4.10 (rather stay w/ 33"), detriot true trac front and rear. I do beach 4x4 for surfing fishing and snow around here during the winter too.
check this out on their website. http://www.detroitlocker.com/DT.htm

Just how much do you gain in off road ability in a 2wd with the Detroit Trutrack?

It's all over the place with people who explain them in these threads, I know it's worm gearss, not plates, etc, but in the dessert, how much will it help over the stock LS is what I am shooting for answer wise.

Thinking about it with a small lift/33"s on the stock 9.75" rearend with 3.73's.
