Ford doesn't own your dealership, an individual (or group) owns your dealership. How they run their business with what they will or won't overlook is up to them.

They are not getting reimbursed differently. Just sounds like some of them don't want to risk not being paid for parts and labor or don't want Ford to hold them under a manifying glass for possibly trying to get one over on them.

Yeah, I know that the dealerships are owned by Ford, but Ford pays the bills on warranty work. For Example: I get my local dealer to install an aftermarket whatever which they warrant. I take a trip to see family a few states away and bam! something breaks. Having to limp it to a local dealer for a fix, they don't cover this since it's not OEM and "caused" the problem. I have to pay. I would hope that my local dealer would reimburse me from that trip, but who's to say. Bottom line, there's too much opinion factored in, period! What one dealer says OK to, another would say NO WAY. Mag.-Moss Warranty Act has little to do with this situation. If the ball joints need replaced, and you are running a spacer, it does not help you. It's a totally different situation when the dealer says that the tailgate does not latch because you have a leveling kit. Anyway, I will pay for the wear and tear on my front end with running the spacers.

Are you guys sure that the dealerships are voiding the warranty for the entire truck or just the components the kit could effect. Could be as simple as a misunderstanding.

They may change their tune if they're not honoring anything if you show them the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act printed right there in your owner's manual.

The dealers that are warrantying ball joints that are destroyed because of the spacers, whether they originally installed them or not... are asking for some heat from Ford should they find out about it.

Take that one step further..... Ford doesn't manufacture their own ball joints in these trucks. When there is a warranty repair to them, who ultimately winds up with the bill for the part and the potential for being shut out as a supplier if there are enough of these bogus warranty claims?..... the manufacturer of those perfectly good (while stock) ball joints, that's who.

That was the answer I was looking for. We know that they will not void the warranty on anything unrelated to the modification. But when certain dealerships start installing aftermarket items with the warranty covering them, then that just shows how much Ford or the part manufacturer is taking responsibility for your actions through warranty claims. You play, you pay.

If an aftermarket part thats not installed by a dealer and came with the papers saying so and it causes the probelm, than yes you have to pay for the fix. Otherwise, tell them to look up the Mag.-Moss Warranty Act or you can just call your lawyer. I can't believe you guys are having such a hard time. My dealer worked on my last truck every step of the way. The 'Ford Rep' even came to look at my truck to figure stuff out and saw it was lifted. All he said was 'this is a really nice truck, its a shame that you're having problems with it.'

Umm - Mag-Moss has EVERYTHING to do with this situation. If you remember, the original poster asked:

Mag-Moss says no - An aftermarket part cannot void an entire vehicle warranty. It can only void the warranty of any individual part that failed because of the installation of the aftermarket part. (Which has to be proved by the vehicle manufacturer.)

Now if your local dealer decided to install a spacer kit on your truck, and offer you a 3yr/36K warranty on it, that's their problem. It has nothing to do with Ford. Ford's warranty covers the components of the vehicle present when it left the factory, and dealer installed offical "Ford Accessories". Anything else is the sole responsibility of the dealer who installed it.

Holy Crap... Did you read through my posts or just skim? I said that the Mag-Moss cannot help you if the ball joints go bad with a spacer. The dealership is going to attribute the failure due to the spacer = no warranty coverage. Ford prints it right in the details of the warranty, so any dealership that is getting reimbursed for replacing bad ball joints caused by the spacer is in trouble. Granted, dealerships vary on what they will do for the customer (keep business), but they are also running the risk of not being paid for this kind of work. I also made a joke about the tailgate not latching with the spacer, which has nothing to do with each other...meaning that they cannot void the warranty on the REST of the vehicle because of the spacer. The Mag-Moss Act would be the first thing to reference if you were told otherwise. It all boils down to Ford not paying for your broken truck when your mod causes it. That being said, I plan on paying for my prematurely worn front end when the time comes caused by the leveling kit. Every dealer I talked to on the front range has said the same thing about CAs/JBs/half-shafts: not covered if the spacer caused it.The Mag-Moss has its place, but you cannot use it for everything.

For those of you with mod-installing dealers, feel lucky.

Probably alot of the dearlerships that are covering damaged parts due to modifications that we install are doing it because you have bought a truck from them before, have spent alot of money with them already, or just to try and keep you coming back to them when you need something. They tell you it's covered under the warrenty and fix it, the dealership can either eat that part and hope to make it up down the road when you come back to buy something else OR they can take a chance and turn it into FORD as a bad part and never mention the modifications that might have caused it.

I had to pay for my parts/labor that went bad from the AutoSpring AS 2" leveling kit. The reason they failed was directly related to the installation of the lift.

Here's another experience.

As I've posted in the past, I've had the annoying experience of the seals leaking on both front cv joints (where they bolt the diff). AFTER the autospring was installed with my 315 BFG ATs, it occurred again. I took it to the local dealership wondering if I would get some flak......

Absolutely nothing was said and the service was completed and I haven't had a problem yet. Now it seems to me that if they really wanted to push it they could have, but they didn't... One thing I have noticed is that this particular dealership likes to sell trucks already lifted and that may have an influence on their attitude towards warranty work.

Brakes aren't covered under warranty anyways. You should stop because what you're saying isn't correct.

You might not be able to get that chime in if most are like me and don't keep there rides that long. I had my F150 with a Fabtech lift for like 6 months and traded it.
