Fans in + Pics

Installed my fan kit I bought from Troyer's. Here are a few pics.
I didn't fasten them to the rad like the instructions, opted for something else. Read through the instructions some and off i went, referring back when needed. I did take the inner fender out, but not the battery box, I noticed directly behind the battery box is a lead going into the cabin, Had I seen it beforehand I wouldn't have taken out that blasted innner fender. It was a pain, as I am no where near as agile as i once was, and standing on my head to do things just plain sucks. I am not sure what that lead is, but it has a large enough boot that a razor blade could have cut a small slit in it and the wire stuffed through then hit with a dab of RTV.

I ran one wire to the fuse block as the yellow wires were not going to reach the intended destination. The green wire to the AC compressor was about 8" to short also. Installation isn't bad, and it took me longer than it should have, one has to take a few beer breaks you know, added with people stopping and bothering me. Weather wasn't the greatest either. If you are a fat guy like me, find yourself a competent thin helper to crawl under the dash, and take that damn inner fender out.

I have a point and shoot thermometer, and I am getting readings all over the place with it. So I am having trouble with exact calibration of the fan controllers. I will try it again tomorrow, as it was to hot to continue with, I believe they are close.

They are about a 1/2 inch away from the rad on the bottom and maybe 3/4 at the top.

If doing it again the way I did, I would use 3/16" aluminum instead of 1/8" also me have searched out someone with a plasma cutter. I cut these up with the trusty craftsman sabre saw, and my 4.5" angle grinder. Had someone do the welding that was done, side tabs and a piece of 1x1x1/4 angle across the bottom to stiffen it up. I shoud have taken the time to sand and polish the plate out, but it was getting late and i need the truck.

Thanks, I have to try to redo the fan calibration and clean up the wiring some. Undecided about putting the plactic cover back on that covers the hood latch and things.

Looks great...I also found the yellow and green cables a bit too short...of course TP told me they have no problems w/the length of the cables...but then again I was told they also install these fans in about an hour...but I'll also bet that their install isn't as clean as what your pictures show...good job and great write up..

That looks clean. Anyway of sharing any drawings and dimensions of the shroud? Even something with rough dims and mounting points and I could take and crank out some drawings for everyone to use. I was planning on doing this mod and making a shroud in the same manner as you did.

Thanks

I will see what I can do about getting dimensions and things posted. I learned a few things along the way that I would do differently, but sometimes you make do with what you have.

I don't know how to do a computer drawing, or have a cad program, but I may be able to do something.
