Does anyone know how the lights you plug into your hitch work?

myst

Can you get us more pictures on how you mounted them? Thanks!

I think the hitch lights just plug into the trailer wiring and so would be powered off the trailer reverse light circuit. This would limit the maximum power of the lights to what the factory wiring will support. It probably has a "pass-through" connector to plug the trailer into, so subtract the power the trailer uses (if using them together) from the high power lights.

I took a look at the web pictures and they are about as clear as I think I can make it. The factory trailer hitch mounts to the frame with a couple of big bolts that stick out straight backwards. The aluminum trapizoid brackets have a big hole that goes over that bolt like a washer would, and I added a locknut to hold it in place. The other end of the bracket has two holes that mount to the metal mounting brackets that came with the lights.

Here's the driver's side mount:

You can find the bolt easily by looking at the location of the spare tire and trailer wiring connector. It's just about straight forward of where the bumper bottom dips down around the licence plate. The aluminum bracket is in place with the factory supplied light bracket screwed to it, ready for the "burner" lights to be added.

Once you locate the bolts on your truck, you'll see how easy it was.
