yet another turbonator question (not what you think)

We have been round and round about that turbonator gizmo and we all know that it is basically a piece of fecal matter and doesn't work. My question is if it doesn't work, why am I seeing turbonator adds on this site. I know this site is free and sponsored adds are what keep it up and running. If I were high enough on the totem pole they would not be counted among the sponsors who are advertising on this site. just my $.02

In most magazines the editorial and advertising departments are separate to maintain the editorial integrity of the publication. The writers of the magazines do not know what adds will be in a particular issue gimmicy crap or not. In the same way the webmaster here has little control over what google adsense adds will appear on the site before they apear.

You make a valid point. So my my new question is does google verify the products they are pushing through google adsense. My guess would say now they do not.

An old-time sales rep I worked with when I first got into business out of college used to say about products like the Turbonator, "Sh*t's for selling -- not for using!"

Any place that takes advertising is not gonna check on the veracity of all claims.
It’s not required by law, not required by ethics.
Not possible anyway.
To do a blind research test on every product you accept advertisement for would cost many, many times the amount of revenue the ads bring in.

If there was some such requirement you couldn't advertise anything, as testing and verifying would not only cost a fortune, there would be an infinite round of challenges as every competitor challenged everyone else’s ad.

While the snake oil sellers are obviously lying in their ads, even the best and most honest vendors must use a little hyperbole in their ads just to get the customers attention.

Just a reality. Caveat Emptor, and if it sounds too good, it is.

a little bit of hyperbole in a an add I can handle
such as it only working the way the add says it will under certain ideal conditions. but when it out and out does nothing then I have a problem with it.

So don't buy it.

Or are you willing to pay Google about fifteen times the cost of every product they advertise for them to test the products? And another fifteen times to cover the lawsuits when they won't advertise a product?
And of course you would have to guarantee the products they tested and advertised would sell or Google would be out of business in about a week.

Of course, you could just get a law passed that everything you disapprove of is unlawful to advertise...

I'm just yanking you, of course, but you see what it would mean if Google even tried to test everything they advertise.

And that's not even touching on that darned old first amendment. Got to get rid of that first, I guess...

An educated consumer is the best defense. And no laws, no policy or any act of Congress will ever help the people that just plain don't want to be educated.

You know, tools like this forum and all of us posters, and of course I include you in this, are the best defense against the snake oil sellers.

With luck, your mention of the Turbo rip-off in just this thread will save a dozen forum readers and Googler's from making a mistake and rewarding thieves.

Chris
