Question Engine Whistling when Accelerating???????

Hello Everyone,

I am new here, and just got my 3rd F-150 which is a new 2006 STX Super Cab. Normally I would have gone for the XLT, but the STX just looked too nice. I love the monochromatic look with the all black. Plus, it already came with factory installed power windows, locks, and keyless entry. It even had the power on the rear windows as well, as I have a Super Cab version.

I have a question though. It seems that whenever I am accelerating the engine sounds like it is making a whistling sound and then once it reaches the desired speed it kind of fades away. I only notice the sound whenever I am accelerating. Has anyone else noticed this at all? BTW, I have the 4.6L V8. I test drove an 05 XLT about a year ago and it made a similar sound, so I was wondering if it might be something that the engine does when it is new for a while, or if it was just something with the engine overall. I am just looking to be safe as I have only had the truck for about a week or so. Thanks for any and all help or info.

B.

Any thoughts?

BUMP.......

I just got back from my lunch break and it seems like it might be something vibrating or even a medal on medal sound. It really on makes it whenever I am just barely pressing the accelerator or letting off of it just at the top. Whenever I floor it, it doesn't really make the sounds. So, it makes me think that something is loose and vibrating. Any thoughts?

Do you have a throttle body spacer installed?

Loose intake tube? Bad silencer? You said it was new so I imagine you don't have a TBS.

Yea, you could have a loose intake tube. Maybe a vacuum line loose?

Vaccuum, good idea, are you getting a rough idle at all or any stalling?

Nothing aftermarket installed. I just dropped it off at the dealer and they weren't sure what it was either. He initially thought it sounded like a "backing plate" rubbing against the rotor, but was perplexed when he found it was something the accelerator was doing and not the brakes. So, I am now the proud driver of a Ford Freestar Minivan until they get it figured out! This just makes me mad because I waited a week for the truck to come in and I finally get it, only to drive it for one day before I have to take it in for something. It only has 100 miles on it. I hope it is something minor. I sure would hate to have come up with a Lemon!!!

Mine has the same whistling sound that you described, I never thought much of it, my silencer has been removed.

Ok, so I just heard from the dealer and they said it was something to do with the air intake with a vacuum line??? Is this a big fix? The reason I ask is because he said they would continue to take a look at it tomorrow to get it fixed, and I am just growing impatient of course to drive my new truck!

Alright, well I spoke with the service manager again, and he is saying that it is something internal with the intake system. I am praying to the holiest of holies that this is not a huge ordeal. I waited for so long to get the truck, and now I am going to be stuck driving a freaking minivan until my truck with only 100 miles on it is fixed! This really pisses me off! Sorry to vent, but I am just frustrated!

Mine has a whislte on acceleration, but nothing to freak about. It started after I removed the silencer and droppped in a K&N. Acceleration is improved though.

I was hoping that whistling was maybe someone accidentally dropped a supercharger in your truck . but if its just the intake it shouldnt be that big of a job. Maybe you could upgrade to an aftermarket intake and kill two birds with one stone but then again the aftermarket intake also makes a whistling noise as well .

but hey, crongrats on the new truck

Hey Screw2004, was this a big fix or was it something simple? Did you have the dealer do it or did you do it yourself?

Thanks!
