I've always replaced the axle bearings with the seals, just 'cause I'm right there and got everything else torn down. Inspect the axle closely for any pitting of the surface where the bearing rides. And inspect the differential vent to be sure it's not plugged, allowing excessive pressure to build within the housing and compromise seals.

thanks
they replaced the first set under warranty and replaced the axles with the seals so this next time i'll be pulling it apart and was what the chance that the axle would be wore or pitted.

Did ford have a bad batch of axle seals in the early 04? I received a follow up call From Maclin Ford here in Calgary, They replaced the rear axle seals on the 04 F-150...
