Gas Mileage- Calc vs. Computer

This might be good news for some out there, I know I was pleasantly suprised. The truck is a year old with 26K on her. Just took a 500 mile trip to Memphis last week. Kept her on cruise @ 74 going down I-10 and up I-55. Computer showed 18.2 MPG; did the actual calculation and S***, 19.4 MPG.
Believe it or don't!! Checked my figures 3 times even though I do calculations almost daily. No complaints here, especially when my old single cab, 300/6 was lucky to get 17mpg at 70mph. Verify your computers guys, it may make your day.

Instead of checking your figures 3 times. Check MPG on 3 tanks. Your MPG may vary. My computer consistently reads .2 to .5 more than hand calculations. I check MPG on every fill up.

I also check my mileage on every fill up and my computer consistently reads higher than hand calculated mileage.

Sorry guys, couldn't get to the computer last night. Yep, got the 5.4; everything else stock except K&N filter in stock location. Also got a cross bedrail tool box with about 300 lbs of tools in it.

Yep, checked a few fillups. I stopped in Canton, MS with over 1/2 tank left for the first fillup. Spent a few days in Memphis, topped 'er off. Filled up again in Memphis after returning from Nashville. Then again in Canton, MS. Each of these times, the computer was 1 to 1.5 mpg lower than actual calculations. Best was 19.5, worse was 18.9. Forgot to check again when I finally got back home.

I just returned from an 1,100+ mile trip to south Louisiana. Towed my boat there and back. Mostly interstate miles at 70-75 mph, into a driving wind/rain both ways. Overall mileage per computer: 13.4 mpg.

Calculated mileage for entire trip, based on odometer readings divided by gallons of fuel pumped = 13.41 mpg. I was AMAZED! My truck's an '04 Screw, 5.4L, 3.73 diff., and I tow with the overdrive on. I could prolly get 16 mpg if I towed at 60 instead of 75, but my right foot just won't let me. You guys prolly know how it is.

Hey CWCobra, hope it didn't rain the whole time you were down here fishing. Course, havin said that, some of the best catches are when we're getting lite showers. Yeah, just wish I'd checked my mileage back in November when I helped the kids move to Jonesboro, AK. Had the bed full (ain't saying a whole lot) and towing a tandem axle 16' enclosed trailer loaded to the brim. I'm running 3.55 gears, but still didn't have too much trouble with OD kicking in/out.
Wasn't trying to "beat" everybody here. It's just that I haven't had one complaint with my truck and getting better mileage than I thought I was getting is just the icing on the cake.
