Raced a newer z3 3.0 5 speed...
I just switched to my Troyer 87 octane TOWING tune, to test it out...so I wasn't even using a good tune for racing at all, and had a FULL tank of gas. Pulled up to a stop next to a little Z3 3.0 (225 hp 214 tq 3100lb weight) and *she* nailed it from the line and I floored it... I literally hung with my hood next to her door the entire way to the end of the merge *(which was very short, maybe 150-200 yards long) and then she pulled ahead.
I think my adaptive learning wasn't done yet because when it hit the end of the gear it held it there for a good second or two and that is where she pulled on me.
Nonetheless, I am very impressed that my truck that literally weighs JUST shy of TWICE as much could hang with it so well on a towing tune! haha
I think if I had 91 octane performance in there it *might* have been different, or at least dead even.

Hell, I'm with Josiah. My modest tunes give my truck a heck of a lot of spunk already. Fun story, and remember, it's never the car but the driver you have to beat.

haha thanks josiah. I watched the chick look over at me before we both went, she gave me "the look" and proceeded to have an excellent take off with a slight chirp and she only shifted once and she was next to me when she did, she shifted seemlessly and then that was when my truck hesitated and she pulled slightly ahead.
Like Josiah said, I know what I saw.
Keep in mind I have a re-geared 2wd with the "big three" engine mods as well... my truck gets up and goes pretty well for as big as it is. and I have NO traction issues because I have very wide, very sticky street tires...
**"In several runs from a standstill to 60 mph the BMW averaged 5.69 seconds, with one run at 5.31 seconds backed up with a 5.45."
I think it seems very logical that my story played out the way it did when you look at this time. I think my truck would be quite capable of getting a low to mid 6 second 0-60...which would have made sense according to what I said happened, right? Granted the chick may not have been as good as these road test guys were, she probably was right around 6 seconds...and mine was probably 6.5 or so.

I raced one [slightly modified he later told me] only a couple of months after I had my BONE STOCK 2004 GTO and bitch slapped him senseless no less than FOUR times. On top of that, my sister-in-law owns a 2002 z3 3.0 she purchased brand new [bone stock] and I've driven it more than a dozen times now. Nice car [very nice, actually] and smooth as all, but I wouldn't give it a "fast" tag in a hurry . . . far from it actually.
Yeah, I know, I'm comparing apples [GTO] and oranges [F-150] and bananas [z3] here, but I've driven ALL three vehicles so I'm in a pretty comfortable position to comment. I'm gonna' stick my head out and say with the mods Lumadar has, I believe him.
These trucks with the right [read: EDGE] mods will amaze you. They have me.
One last thing, the all new Z4 is a better car . . . . a hell of a lot better! Take one for a drive if you get the chance and notice the "wow" factor.
Safe driving.
