CEL Light On

Hey Guys,
Heres my situation. My father in law and I put a deck on the house, and while doing it, we had DMB blasting on the Audiophile system. Needless to say, i let it run a bit too long without starting her up. Battery died. tried starting it up twice by failed. Let it sit ab out 20 mins and finally it started. However, my light came on and wont turn off. Any ideas on whats triggering it and if it can be turned off. Already made an appt on Thurs at dealer but looking for some advice.!!!!

If the battery died...

Did you jump it or similar to get it to start?

Can you operate the truck to get it to an Autozone or similar to pull the codes for you?

The answer is somewhere within the codes that your truck has thrown...

When you say "tried starting it up twice but failed," do you mean in that the engine cranked but didn't start, or just "click" and nothing? If it's the latter, the check engine light is probably on with KAM reset codes or KAM circuit failure codes because the battery died.

I think the code you will get from the CEL will turn out to be a code telling you DMB sucks, and your trucks not gonna take it anymore.

Kinda both....It cranked and right before turning over it clicked. i only did it twice, then 20 mins later it cranked and started. Is this light a hge issue. its under warranty but at 1300 miles i hate to have a problem.

thanks!!

Disconnect the battery then turn your key to the start position and release, let it set for about a minute and reconnect your batter. The light should turn off.

It'll certainly turn the light off, but it won't help find out why the light is on in the first place.

It came on because the brain detected low Volt/Amps and triggered a code. And if I’m wrong (witch I’m 99% sure I’m not) the light will come back on and no harm done, the dealer will be able to read the code.

I think the right thing to do is to take it to the dealer and find out what the code is before dumping it (Like quintin said). However being the to busy to go to the dealer kinda guy I am id just reset it by disconnecting the battery. As for the choice in music

Again, remember, like I mentioned in the first response... Auto Zone and all the others will pull a code for free for you -- in the hopes of you buying a part or 80 from them to fix the problem.

Thanks guys for all the input. Still not sure what to do. Since I already have the appt, i will probably hold off just to be sure. 3 wk old truck with 1400 mi, dont want to overlook anything. Its going in on Thurs and after that the exhaust will be done. Anyway, you guys sure are tough about Dave Matthews. He must be ding something right, lots of albums and great concerts.
