I have a good friend thats a Silverado owner, he did a paint-in bedliner. The total cost was probably $200 including the liner material and prep, in less than two years it was mostly scraped/worn off. Very poor quality overall (though it looked fine for about 3-4 months), when for double the cost he could have Line-X'ed it and had a lifetime warranty. Line-X won't touch it now, they'd have to sand the entire bed down to remove all of the old liner before applying anything, and the extra charge would be outrageous.

I personally went with Line-X for my truck, very happy with it. It is possible to scrape/gouge it off, in fact I damaged it a little today moving some heavy things around, but if you ever penetrate the liner just take it in and they'll repair it. Lifetime warrantys are nice =).

I would NOT do it, you'd be creating a much bigger headache than you'd be 'preventing' but thats just my advice.

I agree, let one of the pro brands like Line-X or Rhino do one for you. That way if/when it fades, cracks, peels away, whatever, it's their problem and not yours. I got a Permatech liner done in my truck, and a year later with some really hard recent use, it's still good to go.

If you throw stuff in the bed I would go with the line-x. I put the dupli-color in mine (sprayed it in myself). In almost a year I had to repair it 3 times. I still don't have but $100 invested in it. I didn't put it as thick as the shops do. If I would do it over I would have a shop do it.

I've got linex in mine and I've no idea how anyone could possibly infract on it... It's solid to me, very very solid.
