Weight in Truck Bed
Weight in Truck Bed
How much weight can I carry in the bed of an '05 f-150 xlt 4x4?
The landscape rock I'm looking to buy is sold in 1 ton loads (2000 lbs). Can I haul it 20 miles in one trip or is 2k lbs too much?
I've had close to 1k in it already and didn't have a problem.
Thanks for your help
Brian

I tow Bobcat regularly and I usually have about 2000lbs +/- of tongue weight depending were on the trailer I load it. But I do need to get some airbags for the rear to level it back out, just because I hate the way trucks look when the rear is sagging. For only 20 miles, go for it. You aren't going to hurt anything in that short of a distance. Just drive with your head and leave room for stopping. I have had 4,600lbs in my work truck, scaled in at 9220lbs (94 F150 in my sig) but I also have 1 ton rear suspension.

Someone I know at Ford who was involved in the design and launch of the 97 model said forget the numbers, just keep loading and stop when you get about an inch off the stops. Just take it easy on bumps and leave plenty of room.

i loaded a stack of metal sheeting into my 2003 dodge ram, and it was 2k+ weight. It made the bed almost touch the stops, and it had a 6" lift kit. well i drove it a couple miles and dropped it off. It bent the heck out of the rear leaf springs. I lost an inch at least of rear height after that stuipidty.
Would i do it again - no....is your truck going to explode? Nope.....do what you got to do! It's a truck! work it!
I hauled 2000+lbs of fertilizer in the truck not too long ago and also pulled a trailer...heres some pics of how the stance was

what load range are your tires?
The F-150 can haul up to 3/4 ton easy I do it every day, But I have a 8ft box and E rated tires, Her is a tip, buy a roll of 6 ml polly and cut it so it over laps the sides of the box and your tail gate when clossed, this way your not getting rocks or gravel caught in the tail gate opening and you can pull the plastic out of the box once you have removed some of the whieght

If it were mine, I'd rent/borrow a trailer.
And if you're buying 2000 lbs of rock, which I don't know jack about but I know 2000 lbs of anything ain't cheap, I'd see about getting the bastards to deliver it for you.
