I did it!
I did it!
Yes it can be done... My 2005 supercab with a 4.6 went 526 miles on 26 gallons of gas!! My build sheet shows I have a 27 gallon tank. My low fuel warning came on at 460 miles. The needle on the fuel gauge fell down to the middle of the E.
I did it on one tank but carried an extra 5 gallons of gas just in case, but didn't use it.
I drive 22 miles one way to work on back roads with an average speed of 50 to 60 miles per hour.
My mods and other info:
1. Edge set to level 2
2. DWV intake mod
3. Tire pressure @ 40 PSI
4. Switched out chrome STX wheel to 5 star, ball milled, Navigator wheels with Michelin Cross Terrains 255/70/18 which lowered my 355 r&p ratio
5. Stepside Undercover tonneau
6. Watched the hell out of the IMPG display
7. I live in a hilly part of Florida
8. The Edge gave me an average of 21 to 22 mpg.
I wouldn't be suprised if I could get 24-25 mpg on the hwy but would likely have to go 55 to 60 mph...
Overall, I'm happy, and have been commuting with a guy from work. He drives a week and I drive a week so it's like getting 40mpg. I'm one fussy guy so it's kinda hard to have someone in the truck with me but the savings are worth it. I have some funny commuting stories I will share later on...

If not, the mileage numbers will be wrong, as well as your odometer.

Larger tire/wheel diameter combo will register less miles on the odometer than actually traveled. Therefore if he was dependent on an flawed odometer to calculate his m.p.g. then he would have actually had better gas mileage than initially calculated.

Yes. I corrected the Edge to reflect my change in tire size diameter and was sure to enter the 355 geaar ratio. The stock Edge gear ratio setting is 373.
The guy at work brought in a pamphlet from a Goodyear service center where he had nitrogen replace the air in his tires. There was mention of increased mpg. It would be interesting to see. Anybody running nitrogen in their tires?
Why Nitrogen... Nitrogen is a dry, inert, non-flammable, enviromentally friendly gas used for years to inflate airplane tires, off-road truck tires, military vehicle tires, and race car tires for improved performance. Nitrogen Tire Filling Benefits...
* Nitrogen permeates through the tire 3 to 4 times slower than oxygen - tires maintain pressure longer for better fuel economy, better tire life, and increased safety.
* Nitrogen reduces oxidation to tire rubber and rims caused by oxygen in standard compressed air.
* Nitrogen filled tires run about 20% cooler than tires filled with standard compressed air - tires last longer.

I guess nitrogen does not vary becuase of moisture in the air and allows for a more constant or something like that right?
Not flamin or callin BS, but hilly in Florida??? Them's just speed bumps. Highest elevation in FL is only 345 ft. In PA the highest is 3211. These hills have convinced me I'll never see much more than 15mpg round here. I can't even go from my kitchen to my living room without hittin a hill.
