Rear Block Removal Complete

Hello All -

I know I searched alot, and had question prior to doing the block removal....so I wanted to post my experience. I went about it a little differently than some others:

-Loosened and removed the 4 U-Bolts (all four, 2 from each side)
-Jack up one side on the frame, and remove the 'block'
-Lower truck back down onto 'nipples' of the leaf springs (note: there ARE 'nipples' on the block and spring that line up....which really makes the process of lining things back up a 'no brainer' for those worried about not setting everything right.
-Fasten new 2wd U-Bolts
-Repeat steps 2-4 on other side
-With Truck Completely on the ground, snug everything up

The whole process took me about 30 - 40 minutes (I did use an air ratchet though).

I also read from others (typically 04-05's maybe?) that the rear, when measured, was still about 1.5" higher. When I measured on my '06, the rear is exactly even (I believe the top of the fender flare was something like 37.75" all around, very conisistent), so my truck is level. Just some information for those that may be looking to do this mod.

Here's an 'after' pic:

Hope this helps....

-Travis

Looks good. I did mine last fall and love the look of it. This has to be amoung the easiest mods to do. Did you buy your 2wd U-bolts from Ford?

Nice man, nothin like a leveled out truck to complete the look. That is a very neat way of doing it to prevent the hassle of getting the darn rear end to line back up. I took it all loose at once and it was a PITA to get it to line back up!!! Yours looks like mine as far as level goes but for some reason it still measures at just over an inch higher in the rear.....

Looks good. Handling better? Staying with the same shocks?

Do you have a part number for the u bolts? I removed mine already but put spacers on the bolts so that I could use them. I would like to get the shorter U bolts asap. I know they are the 2wd bolts but they list light duty and heavy duty and I'm not sure which ones I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated

IDK the part number but it is the light duty ones. The heavy duty is the 4.10 rear end in the 8 foot bed work trucks.

Thanks Fellas...

Part Number: 4L3Z5705FA, yup, direct from Ford (http://www.y2kford.com is where I ordered from....good prices, but takes a while to get, they're in Washington).

Handling is definately the same, ZERO difference in the rear end ride in my opinion. I've got no plans to change shocks.

Hay Matt visually looking at it your truck looks almost dead level so its all good even if the tape differs. I will tell you on my truck and you can look at the pics I am 1.5" higher in the rear still by the tape. Lip to lip on the mouldings and you can tell by looking mine needs to come down so your good Home Skillet.

I'm getting ready to do this mod, so I've been reading everyone discuss measuring wheel wells for level. Doesn't it make sense to just throw a 4' level on the top of the bed. This is the line of the truck that needs to look level to the ground. I haven't checked on this truck, but seems to me that the wheel wells may not be the exact same size and at the same elevation from the ground when level. Some vehicles this is very evident, but I can't tell just glancing out the window at my truck.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice. I'm removing the blocks instead of leveling the front (Rancho 9000 XXX too expensive, AS Spacer concerned about ball joints).

I'll post pix after throwing on my new shoes, 265/70-18 (32.5")

Is this mod only possible w/ 4wd trucks? I have a 2wd can I still do this? If I can will my current 2wd U-bolts work or need to be changed?

I'm either very confused or I maybe I'm just missing something.

Only 4WD trucks have the blocks. To lower a 2WD truck you need to use the Ground Force lowering shackles. Part Number GRF-91200. Kit comes complete with pinion angle correction shims.
