2004 w/Sportster sirius

Does anyone with a sportster radio from sirus have any issues, or even anyone with sirius at all??

On both my trips to san luis the damn thing would stop playing music/lose reception then say "attenna not connected" then not play music for a long time... few hrs at a time... Would check cables, had no issues with them, then it would come on for a few seconds, then stop/lose reception then say again attenna not connected.

Then other times it will work fine. Is something wrong with my receiver or with sirius or what??

Sounds like you may have a bad connection with your antenna. If you know someone with another sportser, see if they can plug their unit into your antenna conection. Or did you try switching the stations to see if it would pick up on another channel. Happened to me before. Hell the unit could be bad.

Sounds to me like your antenna may be bad. I had a similar problem and that was what it turned out to be.

Make sure you didnt crimp your antenna and also make sure your antenna is in a good area of the truck not blocked by anything and if you still have issues Id say it's your antenna. If they replace that and you still have issues then it's your unit.

when I first got my sportster I was having the same problem. As it turns out, I just didn't have the antenna plugged in all the way. It was kind of hard to get it pushed in there all the way. I hope thats your problem and not something worse.

I have the same radio in an '05 and the same thing happened to me. I'm about 99.9% sure you're antenna is bad. Radio Shack, Circuit City, and Bestbuy all have replacement antennas. They run from $40 to $50. Pretty easy installation. Make sure you don't leave any "kinks" in the antenna wiring. Good luck.

I had the exact same problem. It is not the antenna. You need to make sure it is locked very tightly into the car docking station. Sometimes it looks locked but push a little harder and make sure it connects. Give it a try and tell me how it goes. This drove me crazy for a while until I figured it out. I thought it was the antenna also. Hope it works.

I heard from other sites it could be a bad antenna but why would it work just fine for example 10 mins then say antenna not detected, all the while the car is sitting still. No bumps/moving at all to dislodge anything.

This pic is taken while driving
