Another ? About 22" Wheels/Tires...
Hey Guys,
I've got a set of 22" wheels on order which will be shod in a 305/45-22 tire.
With the overall increase in diameter of about 2.8" over stock, will I see a dramatic change in power/performance?
I've got a '06 XLT Supercab 4.6L with the 3.55LS rear end.
My truck isn't a rocket now, but, I don't want it to be a total slug either...
If this tire/wheel combo does make a dramatic difference, I'm wondering if I should reconsider and go with 20's and a 285/50-20 instead...
What do you guys think?

Dramatic? No. But you will see a decrease, in the combination of a heavier tire/rim combo as well as the increased diameter. Also, especially with the 4.6, you might notice a larger difference than if you had a 5.4. But, I don't think it should be anything to worry about, if you aren't too concerned with performance. If so, it's time to invest in some go-fast mods like a tuner, efans, gears, and your typical exhaust/intake combo. I would just play it by ear...
well my truck is a 5.4 and i have 22s with 305 45 22s and I havent seen a decrease in power at all really. but it might be different with the 4.6s
go with 22s, you will regret going with 20s cause they will look small, heck 22s look small on the truck

Had a set of 24's on my previous 04 Supercrew Lariat, did notice a little difference but nothing to bitch and moan over. My buddy has a 04 Supercrew XLT with a 4.6 and 3.55LS and he tells me the samething, its nothing to really bitch and moan over.
I just put on 305/55/20's on my truck with the 4.6 and 3.55s. There is some power loss but nothing to dramatic. The up gearing has me running about 150 rpms slower than before at the same speed. What I do notice is that the torque converter comes out of lockup more frequently to keep the rpms when pulling hills where before it didn't. I notice braking distance with the big wheels has increased but not as noticable as my '02
