4.10 gears and now wont start

I had my 4.10 gears installed today and everything seemed fine. The tech who did the work then tried to reprogram the pcm with the Ford scanner to correct the speedometer. Now it wont start. I am guessing he didnt restore the pcm to original(it had Edge lvl 2) and it erased all the info in the pcm. I dont know yet about what if anything it did to the Edge. Anybody have any ideas? It is under warranty so a new pcm is being ordered Monday.

I'd say that's your problem with no loading back the stock tune. It says specifically in the owners manual to reprogram back to stock anytime you have dealership work. Whoevers fault it was, at least your getting a new pcm.

I doubt you need a new PCM. The current PCM just needs to be manually reconfigured. Hope it gets squared away in any case.

Think we have it figured out

The pcm in the truck wont accept 4.10 because it want offered by Ford for 4x2, so the dealer cant reset it. The Edge used the basic program which didnt include 4.10s so the Edge engineers have to work on the program to update the Evo. The truck is running now with the 4.10s and the pcm is set on 3.73s. I have to run it at 0 level for now but it feels much better than with the original 3.55s.

Very interesting.
I have a 2004 4x2/SuperCab/163"/8' bed with 4.10 gears stock,
and you can still order one of these long beasts in 2006.
I am also running the Edge tuner, and it recognized the 4.10 gears,
but would also allow me to change to 3.55 or 3.73 .

How can the Edge not have a 4.10 gear selection? It just has a range for you to choose from like 2.73 gears all the way up to 5.14 or something like that. Didnt think that was spossible, unless its just a glitch on your edge.

I ran into a problem close to this... I had my 3.55's swapped out for 4.10's in my '05 FX-4. Cliff notes:

Swapped front & rear gears for ~$1,300. Speedo was way off, and they said they'd call Ford the following Monday for a reflash. Ford said no because reflashing my '05 to '06 would alter emissions; 4.10's were not an option in a truck with a 9.75" rear end until '06. They wanted to send my truck out to a speedo recal shop, at their cost, for a fix. I said no, and they credited me the $225 it was going to cost them. I used that cash towards my Edge and I couldn't be happier.

Talked direct to Edge tech

He told me to send them a couple of files and the engineers would work on it. I dont know what the diff is for 06, but know it wouldnt work on mine with 2 calls to Edge and them walking me through it. I am sure they will find an answer. I cant wait to get all of it working together.
