Oil Levels???

I have the 4.6L, the manual says it take 6 quarts of oil inculding the filter change. the dealership & jiffylube says it takes 6.5 quarts. I do not want to over fill, or under fill. does anyone know the correct amount? also, what should the needle read on the guage?

thanks

It's about 6-1/2 quarts. The needle on the guage won't vary with oil level. The oil pressure guage is really an idiot light with a needle, it only knows good, low, and high.

Ford does this to prevent overfilling, even being a 1/2 quart low it's still in the safe range.

6 quarts isn't 1/2 a quart low, it's in the correct range.

6.5 quarts will get you to the top line of the dip stick, but it's safe anywhere between the two lines, but it's bad to go above the line.

The manual says to add oil only if it gets below the lowest line, and just enough to get up above that line.

6 quarts will get you right in the middle of the dip stick lines, which is the safe place for it to be.
