Edge Impressions and Questions

OK! I just got my DEPO lights w/ clear corners and my edge. WOW lights look awesome, and the edge is great. I have my 4.56’s installed and am running 295-70-17 terra grapplers. So I first got the latest software for the edge, then immediately installed it. WOW the shifting is awesome, but now I get bad belt squeal, I gotta get that gator belt. I set the gears to 4.56 and the tires to 2650mm as calculated. According to the GPS I was at 54.8 when speedo was reading 60. So I found the percentage difference which was 8.6667% and reduced the circumference by that amount, which was 2424mm. I rechecked the speedo and it was dead on. I messed around with some different settings like shift points and stuff, but the best time I could muster was a 9.8. I am only running level two and it is a 4dr 4wd with big tires, but it seamed a little slow for having gears, intake tube and exhaust. After reading posts I am going to set the following.

Shift Points 1-2 5400
2-3 5300
3- 5000

WOT fuel 1.5
Shift firmness 5 on everything except last one at 0

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, as I am an edge armature. I know it’s a truck and 0-60 is not important but it’s a good measure of tuning the edge. BTW I am not going to level 3 because of constant towing and gas prices. Did I mention the shifting was awesome…. Felt like a stick shift slamming into gears

Thanks Again Josh

My belt squeeled like a pig at first too...then it quited down. So give it a little while to see if it improves. As for fuel costs preventing you from using level 3...in my case the increased MPG with level 3 more than made up the difference in fuel cost. But if you constantly towing thats a mute point....enjoy your Edge!

OK well i figured out why my 0-60 times seemed off. As above I set my tire size to 2424mm to get my speedometer on with the GPS. Well this morning re-programmed the edge to whats above, and selected the mph gauge on the display. At 60 mph GPS speed, my truck speedo reads 60 exactly, but the edge reads 57. So when i do a 0-60 i am really going like 63 to 64 mph when the time stops... Which is where this heavy beast is slowest.... One good outcome is the 0-60 isnt accurate so i can stop launching my truck and tearing it up!

You need to adjust the numbers some more until the Edge reads 60 with the GPS saying 60. The speedometer typically reads 3 MPH faster than actual and the Edge is correct. You can also do the odometer trick to get the digital readout of speed and $10 says it matches the Edge and not the speedometer.

Odometer Trick ??? wouldnt you rather have the actual truck speedo reading the speed of the GPS, because that is what your odometer is going to follow.... and i look at my truck speedo for speed not the edge... i think i rather have the truck speedo on and the edge off....But then 0-60 and 1/4 miles are off....I dunno what i should do ?????? wish they were just the same!

The speedometer in the truck is never correct, with or without the Edge.

Adjust to the proper gear ratio and tire size, and the odometer, the trucks hidden digital speedometer and the Edge digital speedometer will be correct.

The needle will never be correct.

The edge mph reading is correct the problem is the spring loaded dash speedometer is reading too fast.

EDIT Damn Kool Aid you beat me too it.

Ok i will set the tire size to get the right speed on the edge... its kinda guess work because the actual tire size in mm does not give me close to the same speed on the gps, thats after correcting for the gears too.. I have to do it by percentages... so i have to increase the tire size by the same percentage it is off now, which is 63 edge, 60 GPS..... my tire size in mm's is less then the calulated figure....Calulated its 2654 but actual to get right speed is going to be around 2537 up from current 2424...

The truck's speedo is a mechanical linkage and it not 100% correct. The PCM is getting the accurate reading from the wheel. You want to make sure the Edge is getting the right info.

You might want to measure the roll out of your tires, to get an accurate measurement.

The instructions are in the book.

There is no mechanical anything for speedo's in these things! Most error in these is the fact that the needle is in the wrong spot! lol... It's all fly by wire now, sensors and wires as opposed to gears and cables.. If the speedo is 3 off at 15mph, and 3 off at 80mph, then the needle is just slightly off... Verified with both edge and GPS and adjusted all to read the same.

I was/still am having the same problem with the tire size. My 325/60/18's are 2649mm, when I set the Edge to this the speedo is 5mph according to the GPS off just like verado's truck. I have my Edge set to 2520 mm and it is really close to what he Edge is reading, atleast close enough for me.
