Don't use anything (strap etc.) with any elasticity to it. When the root ball breaks loose...well you know how a slingshot operates Shame you don't have a low gear range.

Yep, got a thread on it...

I would use a steel cable so it will dig into the trunk. I bought mine at home depot.
Don't attach to your bumper, use your trailer hitch.

I tried easing into mine and it wouldn't budge. I actually had to jerk it a number of times. A 4WD might be able to do it otherwise, but I would just slip.

Good Luck!!

I tried it on about a 8" stup and it worked fine. just pulled right out. I used a rope which I know wasnt a good idea but it was through a fence so it was alright. My dad did the same thing with a rope on and it retracted, went right through the back window, over the seats, and smashed the front windshield and landed on the dash. It was pretty close to his head so he got lucky. so dont use a rope.

well, I never actually pulled a tree out of the ground. All I did was drag it out of my backyard when it fell over. At the time, I even only had a 4X2 and the truck pulled it just fine. I doubt I'd be able to pull out anything with just the 4x2, but to drag it did good!

Yeah, I got some advice. Stop watching TV. And burn the stump out. Seriously, if you ain't got your straps or chains or whatever set up securely, when you start pullin', those straps or chains are gonna come flying out and maim someone and/or your truck. Buy a 12 pack of two and a few gallons of gasoline and burn that sucker out, 'cause I don't wanna read a thread in General about how a piece of logging chain came through your back window and cracked your skull open.

Exactly, or cut the tree and than drill a hole in the stump and let it soak in oil.

And besides, fire is cool. Just have a water hose standing close by and burn 'er out. If anything, the fire will make is easier should you decide to rip it out with your truck. I tried the stump pulling thing once before with my '97 F250 and the chain flew up and smashed into my tailgate. Learnt my lesson. Last one I burned out.

Just call someone with a stump grinder, then set on your porch with a cold one or two
when done comment to the neighbors how hard it was to get that sucker out.....
