AVIC-Z1 installed (What I did step by step)
Well I just got my z1 installed and this is how it went. (2006 Super Crew)
Please excuse poor camera phone pics.
1. Remove trim cover around stock radio unplug 3 ac plugs 1 cig plug and pas airbag plug from back
2. Remove 4 screws holding stock radio 7mm
3. Remove stock radio and unplug harness
4. Wire crutchfield harness to the z1 harness, wire pink wire to the VSS located in the trucks wiring harness(grey / black I think), wire parking break wire to the wire just above parking assembly, wire reverse sensing wire (purple and white) to the reverse wire of truck located just above fuse box (Green / gold I think) This is also where I mounted XM receiver flat on the bottom of this cavern. Plenty of room.

5. Install antennas for XM and Z1 through 3rd brake light

6. Entered through 3rd brake light followed above headliner around to the middle pillar passenger side where I routed the wire into the black trim around door and down to the sill. From there I removed both door sills on the passenger side and ran the wires in the door sill (Plenty of room). Upon clearing the front seat you will need a clothes hanger to route the wire under the carpet and up to the dash just in front of the heater vents. You will need every inch of the wire supplied for it to reach.
7. Once the antennas are installed, on to the rear view camera. Mounted it on top of the bumper between bumper and tailgate. Gives a great picture from there and shows receiver hitch well.
8. Route the cable attached to the camera along passenger side frame rail with long wire ties. Enter into the truck at the back of the rear door sill through a round black rubber grommet located at the very back. (You will have to cut a hole to get it through).
9. The pioneer camera has a power supply that must be hooked up at this point. I ran the cable from the camera all the way to the pillar between the two doors on the passenger side. Just the right length. I attached the RCA cable that would continue on to the HU at this point and hid the power supply in the pillar under the plastic trim piece. (Fits nicely in there).
10. From there I ran the red and black power and ground wires plus the RCA video cable along the door sill and up behind the panel for the fuze box then accross under the carpet behind the glove box. (You have plenty of wire for this).
11. I then wired in the power and grounds for the XM tuner and the rear view camera.
12. Lastly, I mounted the microphone on the drivers side visor. (Might move this later) Ran the wire down the door rail to dash and under dash over to HU.
13. Plugged it all in. Reinstall 3rd brake light.
14. Check connections
15. Test
16. Mount in factory opening using mounting kit supplied by crutchfield. (Did not buy z1 from crutchfield, just the mounting kit and wiring harness)
17. Plug in all factory plugs to the trim piece
18. Reinstall trim and it looks almost factory

Good writeup, I can't wait to see what it looks like. Do you drive a lariat? Tell me it has black interior. I drool over the thought of black w/woodgrain trim and a double din unit in there.
xlt
My truck is a 2006 xlt screw. OH and JOSIAH, I was playing around with it and you can even set the background of the nav unit to woodgrain identical to what comes in some of the trucks. This unit is truly amazing. Mine is the dark flint interior. Can't tell from the pics as the color in some of them is awful.
