How much for trade in???
I have to make one of the worst decisions of my life. I'm thinking of trading in my F-150. Commuting to work 50+ miles a day is starting to really hurt when it costs $70+ to fill up. My truck has about 21000 miles on it, Supercab FX4, standard equipment with line-x and tonneau cover. Just wanted to know from others personal experience how much they have been getting for trade in. KBB says $21110 for trade in, but i'm sure thats optimistic. Any help appreciated.

Yes KBB is low for our trucks. Trade in pretty much sucks and with all the discounts they have been handing out that hurts also. Great deals when you buy but if you plan on cutting sling load after a couple of years its going to bite you in the ****.
Gas prices do suck but I love my truck. Looks like i will just drive the Beemer a little bit more since its a V6.
You will be ok dude, take one for the team.

Times like this is were a little Focus /Cavalier or some crap comes in handy for the work commutes.
Gas in Calgary Alberta is 106.00 a lt, my f-150 has a 135 LT tank, in excess of a 140.00 cdn to fill it up, my replacment truck will not really be better on flue, if it's close to the F-150, I will be happy.
I have quit eating out, quit buying my morning coffee, cut down trips out and so far I'm holding my own gas prices, you bought the truck, drive it and enjoy it, if you smoke, quit, or collect empy pop bottles...

When I traded in my 04 FX4 I got 18500 for trade since I only paid 21 for it and it was a year old I did ok

Looks like I may be trading my truck for a civic. Didn't have a kid when I bought the truck, and didn't have to drive so far. Anyway, I may be downgrading and wanted to know about some actual experiences on trade-in value.
Don't expect much in trade. Ignore the online price guides, as they aren't very accurate on these trucks anyway. You really can't expect to get a good trade in on a vehicle the dealer is going to have a hard time getting rid of. Right now, some of us are second guessing why we own these machines. Many dealers are thinking the same thing with respect to their inventories. Hell, I know one local dealer who will not take another F150 in on trade. They've got too many and it's costing money to sell them....
So, is there any sense in my posting... Probably not. But if you trade, expect to be upside down big time.... Why not hang on and see what happens. Plus, do things to offset the costs of driving these. Look for ways to be more efficient. Brown bag it, replace the oversized (and great looking) tires and go with a stock sized P rated tire, maintain air pressure higher to reduce rolling resistance, tune the engine, replace air/fuel filters, make sure your front end is properly aligned, put a soft boiled egg between your foot and the go pedal....
Does anyone remember just how little the large V8 powered cars were worth in 1973 when we saw the first big jump in fuel prices. You couldn't give these things away.... Hell, I'd rather keep the truck, and pick up an econo box.

If you have a CarMax in your area, take it there and have them give you a price for it - they do it for free.
Then take that price and compare to how much you still owe on the truck, and figure out how much you will be losing. Then look at the car you want to buy, and figure out how much you will have to pay up front to get that car (and how much more or less you will be spending a month in payments).
Then take the truck and the new car and calculate your annual fuel cost. Now see how long it takes you to cover your losses from the sales of your truck with the fuel savings from your new car. If this timeframe is reasonable for you, then do it.
Also, consider selling you car to a third party, you will probably get a few extra thousand. Trade in is the worst route.
