Should I go higher?
Should I go higher?
For the past month or so I've been kind of shopping around for a 4x4 Scab to trade my truck in on since the used market is so low. Id hoped to be able to sell my truck privately for around $1700 and I have around $3000 more I could spend so I was trying to find a truck around $20,000. Seems like theres plenty of them out there for for the price I want but just not in Houston that I can find. I had considered it before but now Im reconsidering just going with a 6" suspension for my current truck. I found the procomp for $1330 and the fabtech for $1430. If I do decided to lift then I think I would probably spend the extra $100 for the fabtech. Right now I have 33" BFGs so I dont have to worry TOO much about bigger tires but I also work part time at Discount Tire after school and theres plenty of 315/70/17s we have on the used rack that have less miles on them than mine that I could get for dirt cheap. I plan on installing the kit myself because I did call multiple shops and I got an estimate of $2400 from 4 Wheel Parts which is just ridiculous and I got $2000 from Allout Offroad which is still high in my opinion and I talked to my manager and he said I can bring it in to work one day when Im off and I can use all the tools. Ive also looked into regearing to 4.56 for $600. Anyways, what do you guys think I should do - keep looking for the 4x4, lift it, or just leave it alone?
Honestly, if you can do without the extra space, get a regular cab to go offroading. The long wheelbase sorta kills it if you don't have really large tires. If I had much smaller I would have rubbed on a lot of obstacles by now, but even 35's would probably be ok. Just go as large as you can if you get a supercrew and if not get a regular cab. Also, the extra weight of a supercrew makes friends hard to find, lol.
I do go offroading but only on occasion and just for the fun of it. Ive never really been stuck and I dont really NEED 4x4 for weather conditions or anything other than it might be useful on the steep boat ramp we sometimes use. BTW, Im only looking into a SCAB not a SCREW. And like I said Im really having a hard time find one witht he options I want. Im not picky either, If I go for a new truck then I want 4x4 with shift on the fly, scab (I dont think I could afford a screw but it would be nice), at least an XLT trim level, and low miles!.
