Ford Strikes a NEW LOW

I recently took delivery of my factory ordered 06 screw with 6.5' box.Right away on the first fill I new something was up with the fuel tank as it was showing empty at450-500km.My old 04 had the 135l tank and the new one was supoosed to be the same.A few weeks later I bring it in for warranty beefing about the tank going dry at 100 l and they go thru and tell me the usuall ,can't find anything wrong sir.Well much to my surprise I recieve a letter from Dennis Schofield truck marketing pland manager informing me that due to a coding error my truck was built with a 102l tank insteadof the 135l its supposed to have .NOW heres the kicker uhhh us dumb ^%$%^@## at Ford are sorry and heres a cheque for a $125cdn to adress the situation.I don;t friggen believe it trying to buy me off are a paltry 125 bucks on a $38,000 truck and Ford wonders why they are in Trouble.I took the letter down to my dealer and they too where appalled as I also informed them that I will settle for nothing less than the 135l tank and I;m going to keep the $125 for the hassel
Sorry for the venting but this is the only way these big companies can get theres

I would contact Ford Customer No-Service and advise them that you did not get the equipment you paid for and ask them to make it right. You should also follow up with a written complaint through the dispute resolution instructions in your owner's manual packet.

I'm sure if you work with your local Ford customer service representative (reach him through the dealer) you should be able to have them install the correct tank on your truck either for no charge, or at most in exchange for your $125.00 check. It's not a big deal to do the repair, and at least Ford stepped up to the plate to let you know that an error was made.

My guess is that most folks didn't even realize there was a mistake on their truck, nor did they care, and were probably delighted to have an extra hundred bucks thrown at them by Ford.

A bit of advice -- lose the "attitude" when you're dealing with the Ford rep, as you'll catch more flys with honey than vinegar. Mistakes happen -- don't use someone's error as an opportunity to release your pent-up aggression towards society!

Believe it or not, I've had NOTHING but FANTASTIC service from the folks at FoMoCo Customer Care. I know I may be an isolated person with that end result but, like the others, I'd HIGHLY encourage you to contact them. Speak with them frankly yet calmly. Best of luck to you.

The dealer should be intstalling the 135 lt tank and Ford should be covering this, some one at the Ford plant, or Ford dealer passed the buck by not filling out the proper paper work and a 125.00 check is a sour way of redemption.

When you and the dealer do a factery order, the dealer is responsable for providing the truck your buying.

Stay with the fight, your Ford dealer has to provide in full the truck you bought..

The 135 LT tank is a must have..

SavageCanuck,

I recently ordered a 06 SuperCrew with the 6.5' bed and at the time the order guide showed a 27 gallon tank (102l) to be standard equipment and an optional
35.7 gallon tank (135l) at a cost of $95.00 (US). I went with the 35.7 gallon tank.

Ford doesn't submit the codes, they get them from the dealer. Sounds like your dealer is trying to pass off it's mistake on FoMoCo.

Sucks that they messed up. But at least they admitted it and took steps to make it right for you. Even if the new tank costs $125, you still get the truck you want with the tank you want - and it only took you a couple trips to the dealer.

I don't know if I would necessarily refer to this as a "new low" for Ford...

x2 I agree....

You would likely have never known you had the smaller tank so without their admission of a problem and a check you'd always wonder what was wrong.

They admit the mistake, attempt to make retribution and get "A new low"....not in my book....

I think that is an example of GOOD customer service...not bad.

Do not cash that check until the tank is in your truck.

If you cash that check, you have accepted their settlement offer. This is a simple contract claim. You purchased a vehicle under the guise that it had what you wanted in it, and it doesn't. You complained during your "inspection period" and were told that what you complained of was not true. Everything is in your favor if you play your cards right. But cash that check, and the party is over... you would have just accepted their settlement offer.
