Edge 4.6

I posted this question on the Tuners and Chips forum, but no one answered.

My question is twofold:

1. If I buy an Edge, do I have to know air to fuel, timing, shift points, etc. in order to tune it correctly, or can I just choose a level and leave it? I am a little intimidated by the whole timing and stuff.

2. What kind of gains have you guys with the 4.6 seen in terms of mpg, power throughout the curve, ease of use/install, etc.

Thanks a million.

You would be fine just picking level 2 or 3 and leaving it as is.

I have a 4.6 and leave it on 2.

No mpg difference for me.

Ease of use for me has been extremely easy, set it, disconnect it and leave it be. Until I get bored with it I don't plan to tinker with the settings.

As for power, the butt dyno is all I can go by and for the price it feels like the motor should have been tuned this way from the start. No lag in power when shifting gears. Only drawback for me is a bit of a hard 1-2 shift at WOT that shakes the truck.

that shift from 1-2 that shakes the truck sounds really strange. How hard are we talking here, and are you sure it isn't due to a transmission issue?

No tranny issues I'm aware of. I believe it's due to a slightly aggressive setting for shift firmness for the version I'm using. I haven't updated in awhile so maybe the firmness has been toned down in recent builds for Level 2. I've been meaning to update and maybe turn it down, but just been lazy. Hard to explain the shift in words, it's not earth shattering but does give a good slap into 2nd.

So, as I understand it, I will get the Edge in the mail, and I will have to choose a level, and the level that I get will be downloaded from the internet?

Your best bet is to go to the Edge website and download the manual. I believe it's in PDF format. Tells you all about how to install, how to flash any of the three standard settings that come with it, and how to customize the settings if you wish. You may want to read through it before you order to see if it's for you. That's what I did before I ordered mine. It really is very easy to use...
