Glad I didnt take my truck..

I just got back from seeing that famous mouse in Florida and man Im glad I didnt take my truck. Let me start out by saying that I-95 must be a magnet for idiot drivers. Going down I saw a cop chasing a tuner and it ended up with the tuner in the woods and the driver on the street. Then saw a forest fire burning right on the north bound side. And also saw a mid 90's ranger on fire in the median. All this going down. Then coming back was the worst part, only after being on 95 for about 100 miles I crashed my wifes 03 Focus wagon into the back of a Subaru Forester. For some reason every one driving this interstate in the passing lane likes to just slam on brakes. I had already had to get on the brakes hard several times so I was giving a good four car lenght between the cars infront of me when I saw the car infront of the Sub hit his brakes I hit mine and locked them up and slid a ways befor nailing the back of the Sub. After getting to the side of the road I saw no visable damage to his car so I just knew the Focus was going to be something like a beer can but to my surprise the only damage was a slightly bent corner on the drivers fender and some spider webbing in the clearcoat at the point of impact on the bumper. Ford did something right with the Focus cause I REALLY hit this dude. As we both noticed no damage we drove on with no law coming into play. Looking back down 95 both lanes of traffic were completely stopped who knows what happend back there. Going forward within 1/4 mile I saw 8 differt vehicles pulled to the side with very noticeable damage. Then if that wasent enough anther car chase ensued and the cop chasing the Cadillac Escalade passed me in the left side breakdown lane and ran over a piece of retread and as yall probably guessed, it flew up and chipped the paint on the top of the car. I think next year Ill fly down. Needless to say Im very Glad I didnt take my truck. My wifes a little pi$$ed though.

Thats Florida for you. . and if you think thats bad enough, you should see the people who like to slam on their brakes in front of lifted trucks! I mean bigger tires equals better braking, right?

My focus had ABS, but not all do.
It's standard on the ZX4, but I don't think it is on the LE model. Maybe on the SE.

Mine could stop on a dime, but after a lot of hard stopping, there was a bit of brake fade and the ABS would kick in sooner.

Yeah I used to live in Plant City so I know the road you're talking about. I also was there for vacation in march and drove that to get to Splash Mountain or whatever the water park is called.

I was going 85 and I was getting flat run over by people in the right hand lane. It's pure nuts driving that road. I just couldn't believe the flat out lawlessness on that particular highway. I think it's because everyone just wants to get off it and fast. Especially since if you're on it, you're on the highway for a long time since there is really nothing between where you are and where you're going.

For 2006, it's available as part of the Security Package, which includes ABS and side air bags. You can get that package on ANY trim level Focus, including the base model S. Ask me how I know....

No ABS. I Thought four cars was plenty, but each time I gave that distance someone else would cut in front of me. Just chitty drivers I guess.

I make the mouse trip from Miami 4 or 5 times a year. If you can, use the Trunpike. Better experience all around.
