How to: Laptop Desk
How to: Laptop Desk
Some of you have asked about my laptop desk so I figured I would take a few pics and show you what it is and how I did it.
It's built with 3/4" black pipe. I used nipples, unions and 90s to configure. The unions allow for angle adjustment and quick removal.
Here it is. My lap top is mounted in a position just off my console. I use the laptop for GPS (Delorme MapNGo). There are other things I do with it but I am not willing to admit it here.

Here is the base which uses the front left passenger seat bolt to secure. The base is steel plate with a flange bolted to it. A union is mounted to the base to allow removal. Full seat operation is acheived with the mount removed to this point.

A 12" nipple and other fittings complete the framework.

The laptop mounts on a platform made from laminating two 1/8" sheets of acrylic. I used some aluminum angle to provide a lip.

I placed a sheet of non-slip shelf lining on top and velcro strapped the laptop on. See figure 1 above.
By varying the type and length of piping used, you can put your laptop in just about any location. You can paint the pipe and fittings for a cleaner look. My pc power supply plugs into the back of the console and sits under the passenger seat.
Good Luck.

Interesting build. While I'm all for the satisfaction of doing it myself (sometimes), I'd probably have to just buy the Jotto Laptop Auto Desk.
